MYRNA SCHIMKA Obituary

Myrna P. Schimka of Des Plaines for 45 years A memorial service for Myrna P. Schimka (nee Oppenlander), 61, formerly of Chicago for 16 years, will be held on July 14, in Farina, Ill. Born Sept. 30, 1950, in Chicago, she died Thursday, June 28, 2012, in Park Ridge. Myrna was the wife of Michael Schimka for 41 years; loving mother of Tony (Jenny) Schimka) and Andrea (Chris) Thier; cherished grandmother of Nicole Schimka, Dylan Schimka, Joe Thier, Ben Thier and Samantha Thier; and dearest sister of Glen Oppenlander. Despite her long struggle with MS, Myrna enjoyed many family activities including traveling, boating, trail riding, loving and laughing. Thursday, June 28, Myrna surrendered to her over 30 year battle with MS. Although struggling with this crippling disease, she enjoyed a life without limitations full of family activities and dreams that one can only imagine. Donations to the National MS Society honoring Myrna Schimka are appreciated. Arrangements by Cremation Society of Illinois. For information, call 847-827-4550.

I remember Myrna with gratitude that our paths crossed. She was a fun and courageous women who valiantly fought a horrible disease. She was a great example to all. My prayers are with all who loved her and still miss her.

Dear Mike, Andrea and Tony, My life was greatly enriched knowing Myrna. She was a kind and thoughtful friend with a fun sense of humor. I was always inspired by her awesome attitude. I can imagine her in heaven throwing a really fun party, free of all pain and problems! What an example she was to all of us. I am a better person having known her.
