This afternoon as I was sorting papers I couldn't believe that I found a copy of Nate's testimony that he gave at his baptism. I was away over Easter and felt so badly that I had missed his baptism, and in telling him so, he pulled out the written testimony he had planned to give on that occasion and gave it to me!! It is below.
********************************
Testimony written by Nathan Horne for his baptism Easter 2008

I am here today only because of the unmerited favor or Grace of Christ and his holy patient Mercy.
These Gifts to me are so huge because I was and will never be worthy.
Some of you might know who I am, but for those who don't, my name is Nathan Horne.
I never thought I would be here today, but I praise God that I am.
I was just paroled from prison on the 29th of last month. I was sentenced to 12 years to serve 7 for amongst other things, breaking into this very church.
My past was a jumble of sin.
No good thing came from me. I was the picture of loss and sin.
Not too long after my incarceration I was contacted by a member of this body.
His message was clear. I was forgiven! I have never heard those words from those I had done wrong.
This same brother began to share the word with me. Not long after God began to convict and chastise my soul.
He began to show me what sin was, and crush me with love and humility unlike any other could.
As I said before, I got out of prison last month, but in my soul I have been free from the prisons of sinful ways and man since God touched my heart.
Now, thanks be to God, I am a prisoner to Christ. A slave no longer to sin but to Christ's holiness.
This spirit helps me renounce the old man and clothes me in the cloak of Christ.
Today and always:
*I thank God that he sees us sinners as worthy children
*I thank God for washing us with the blood of his son
*I thank God for continuing to mold us into the reflection of Christ.
*I thank God for giving me a clean slate and allowing me to die daily.
*I thank God for letting me shed my sin and struggle at the foot of his cross.
May he show all of us the way, and the meaning of devotion.

Nate touched our lives in a profound way, even in the short time we knew him. Seeing the transforming work of God evidenced in his life was a huge encouragement to all of us at Life on the Vine, and we thank God for the blessing of knowing him. We will deeply miss him and are praying for his family during this time.

Nathan's story inspired us. The grace he was able to find and receive is something many of us struggle to understand. Unfortunately, we were not able to know Nate personally, but we respected him and looked forward to getting to know him...and still do as one day we will meet him in heaven.
May God bless those who are seeking meaning during this time of grief. May the God of all comfort and peace provide those gifts for those who were closest to Nate.

It was an honor to attend church with Nathan, who showed the courage and humility of giving his life over to Christ. Though he is with the Lord, he will be greatly missed here.

Nathan walked into our church (Life on the Vine) this Spring a new man, free in Christ. We very quickly grew to love him. Our lives were impacted by his life in ways that we will never forget. I try to imagine his entrance to heaven on Friday. I can picture him running into the strong arms of Jesus. He is now safe and secure in the very presence of his Saviour. But his friends at Life on the Vine will miss him deeply. My prayer are with his family, especially with his grandfather, of whom he often spoke with such love, care and respect.

Nathan Horne was my dear and cherished friend and my family I feel the loss of this bright light deeply. Though our time with him was much, much too short, it is a time that will be etched on my mind and in my heart forever. I loved Nate and my children adored him. He was a good man with a bright future and great plans to make his corner of the world a better place. I almost cannot bear to say good-bye. His smile, his warm hugs, his hard work, his love and his compassion will be missed. I pray he has found peace in the arms of our God.
