NATHANIEL CIGAN Obituary

Nathaniel Gregory Cigan of Bartlett Nathaniel Gregory Cigan, 23, died unexpectedly at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield on Sunday, July 3, 2011. He was born Feb. 23, 1988, in Hoffman Estates, the son of Greg and Barb (Phillips) Cigan. Nathan had been employed by Rainbow Glass in Roselle as a commercial glazer for the past three years. He especially loved his Mazda RX7, enjoyed riding his motorcycle, and was a superb scuba diver. Nathan was known for his tough exterior that hid an extremely tender heart, especially for those less fortunate or "down and out." The family home became a safe house for those who had no place to go, sometimes for a short time but often for an extended period, with the full support of his caring parents. Nathan had a marvelous work ethic, as attested to by his employers and his many friends. In addition to his parents, Nathan is survived by his maternal grandmother, Bernelle Phillips of Appleton, Wis., and his paternal grandparents, William and Rev. Janet Pierson Kyle of Shady Cove, Ore., and his aunts, uncles, cousins and his unofficially adopted siblings and his beloved Doberman, Bentley. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Lyle Phillips. There will be a gathering of family and friends from 4 p.m. followed by a service to celebrate Nathan's life at 5 p.m. Saturday, July 9, at Riverside Community Church, 37W130 Crane Road, St. Charles, with Pastor Walt Barrett officiating. Interment will be private. Memorials in Nathan's memory may be made to Lazarus House, 214 Walnut St., St. Charles, IL. 60174. Arrangements handled by the Malone Funeral Home, Geneva. 630-232-8233 or visit malonefh.com.

A sunset only to rise with the SON

June 26, 2012

Dear Greg and Barb,
What a shock to hear of Nathan's death. As the one year mark approaches know that you are in our prayers.
We could never express what a loss we feel for you as well as our family. A void will remain but his life will forever be remembered. We KNOW that he is with our Father and he is at peace.
Nathan was and will remain a part of our family. We loved him as a son.
If we could give you words of encouragement it is this. Nathan touched our family in ways that no one else could. He brought such joy so many smiles underneath that "crust of macho" was a tender hearted young man who truly loved his Lord!
As the days and years go by we will be blessed by Nathan's legacy of hope and unconditional love for those around him.
We love you!

Dear Greg and Barb,
We were so sorry to hear about Nathan's death. It sounds like he was a fine young man and funny like you, Greg! We tried so hard to come up for the funeral and family get-togethers, but were not able to make it. We can't even begin to know what you have been going through and trying to imagine what it would be like to lose Kimber or Jenni is a nightmare. Know that you have been in our prayers and that we love you both very much. We'll be in touch.

Dear Barb and Greg,

I've known you from afar for many years...and I've known you best through my son, Alec. Once, I knocked on your door and you welcomed me in as I sat and spoke to you about teenagers and their ups and downs. I will never forget the kindness you extended to me that day as you shared your wisdom about raising a young man. My heart has been broken since the fateful day that has changed everything. My son, loved yours. They were like brothers. We are grieving the loss of Nate. Please know that we are here to support you in your time of need. You can knock on my door anytime and I will return the favor that you extended to me four years ago-almost to the day. Please feel my love and sincere condolences during this very sad time.
