PAUL DOESCHER Obituary

Paul F. Doescher, Jr., 90, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Dec. 23, 2017 in Lincolnshire. He was born Feb. 12, 1927 in Chicago, grew up in Oak Park, was a former 50 year resident of Libertyville, and lived in Vernon Hills for the past 14 years. He was a graduate of Oak Park and River Forest High School and received his bachelor's and master's degrees from Northwestern University. He was an educator who served for nearly a decade as principal and assistant superintendent at District 65 in Lake Bluff. Then, he spent two decades "home" at District 70 in Libertyville as the principal of Highland and Butterfield schools. He was a member of the National Education Association and a past president of the IL Principal's Association. Paul was a member of the Congregational Church (United Church of Christ) throughout his life and most recently was a member of Ivanhoe Congregational Church in Mundelein. He was a very active member in the churches he served. His grandparents were missionaries in Nauru and that helped attribute to his strong religious beliefs. He was a veteran of the US Army, serving in Germany in 1945-6, and a member of Libertyville American Legion Post #329 and the Kiwanis Club. Paul loved working on cars, traveling, teaching children, and, especially, spending time with his family. Paul Doescher is survived by his wife of 68 years, Phyllis Doescher; daughter and her family, Noel Roth (David) of Flagstaff, AZ, Aaron, Brian and Kristie (Gen); son and his family, Mark Doescher, MD (Dorothy Rhodes, MD) of Nichols Hills, OK; Samuel and Tess; and his daughter-in-law and her family, Sue Doescher, PhD of Corvalis, OR, Kara. He was preceded in death by his son Paul S. Doescher, PhD, formerly of Corvallis, and his sister, Dorothy McMahon. Visitation will begin at 12:30 pm Saturday, Dec. 30, 2017 followed by services at 2:30 pm at the Burnett-Dane Funeral Home Ltd., 120 W. Park Ave. (Route 176, one block west of Milwaukee Ave.), Libertyville. Military honors will follow the service as well as interment at Ivanhoe Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to his church. Info, 847-362-3009 or please sign the on-line guest book at www.burnettdane.com.

Our heartfelt sympathy on the loss of your husband and father. Paul was a very special friend of the family, helping in time of need whether it be for a job or car. His kindness will always be remembered. We were fortunate to celebrate so many milestones in his life; retirement, birthdays, anniversaries and holidays. We were blessed to have him part of our lives. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.

Paul hired me to teach Spanish and French at Highland School in 1980 and with his guidance began my love of teaching junior high students. He was the consummate educator and I was proud and happy to call him both my principal and my friend.

Paul hired me in 1980 for a teaching position at Butterfield School. I taught at Butterfield for the next 35 years! I am very grateful for all Paul did for my career. Paul was a good man and a great principal. My thoughts and prayers are with Phyllis and the family at this difficult time.

December 27, 2017

My mother, Marie Tarczynski, worked as an aide at Butterfield for many years while I was a student there. Paul was respected and well loved, and his name was familiar in our home. May your holidays be blessed knowing that God is lighting Paul's path.
