RICHARD BRESLICH Obituary

Richard Louis Breslich, born April 13, 1923 at age 91 went to his Heavenly home Wednesday, April 30, 2014. He is survived by his wife, Jean Grimes Breslich, 3 children; Rick (Patricia), Keith (Mary Beth), and Carole (Paul) Burris. His grandchildren are Rebecca (Michael) Soule, Hillary (engaged to Jordan Brown) Breslich, Matthew (Desiree) Burris, and Andrew (Keli) Burris. He is blessed with 4 great grandsons; Ryan, Danny, and Nathan Soule, and Oliver Burris (born a week ago). He is also survived by 2 sisters, Phyllis Farmer and Elizabeth MaLauchlan. Richard was born and raised in Elgin with a grocery family; working in his Dad's store, Bob Zenk's, owning one with Jean, and working for his father in law. Once he began with Piggly Wiggly and found that he'd be moving from store to store, he and Jean decided to venture in a new direction. They were in the hardware business for 53 years. They had 6 True Value Hardware stores in Elgin and surrounding communities. Richard served 4 years in the Navy during WWII in Dutch Harbor, Alaska. He always held our country and the service in high regard. As a veteran, he had the joy of traveling to Washington, D.C. with the Honor Flight program in 2012 which was one of his biggest pleasures in recent years. Richard has been an active, supportive member of Epworth United Methodist Church of Elgin for the past 67 years. His church family was very important to him. He was also a member of the Windy City Organ Club, a life member of the Elgin Historical Society, and many other community service groups. Richard loved his family and his home where he was an amazing gardener. He loved sharing the beauty of his yard with those who passed by. He loved entertaining family and friends in their home and was always aware of people's needs and cares. A Celebration of his Life Service will take place at Epworth United Methodist Church, 37W040 Highland Ave on the west side of Elgin on Saturday, May 10th, 2014 at 1:00 PM, followed by a reception at the church. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to Epworth United Methodist Church or a charity of your choice.
