ROBERT PRITZKER Obituary

Robert Pritzker of Huntley Robert Pritzker, 87, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 3, 2012. Bob was born Aug. 15, 1924, in Chicago, Ill., the son of Isadore and Dorothy (nee Wechsler) Pritzker. After the death of his father when Bob was 6 years old, his mother and three siblings left Chicago. Having spent several years in California, they landed in Peoria when Bob was 11 years old. Upon graduation from Peoria Central High School, Bob enlisted in the Naval Air Force. He graduated first in his class from Navigation School. He served our country In World War II, arriving at Pearl Harbor on VJ Day. After his discharge from service, Bob joined his mother and brother in the family business, Sell-Rite Sales. That business was the base for the successful chain of discount stores, known as Miracle Mart. Bob was not back in Peoria very long before he met Suzanne Eder, who became his wife in November 1946. They raised three children in Peoria: Bernard (Arlette) of Northbrook, Ill., Barbara Niehus of Skokie, Ill. and Nancy (Jim) Perkins of Sycamore, Ill. Through the years, Bob was extremely active in his local community. He served on many boards, including the YMCA and Big Brothers/Big Sisters. He also was active in the Jewish community. He was well-known and highly respected by all. In his retirement, Bob and Sue moved to Pine Mountain, Ga., where Bob immediately became involved again. This time he was a member of the Masons, as well as being on the board of the local American Cancer Society. After 13 years in Georgia, Bob and Sue moved to Huntley, Ill., to be close to their children and grandchildren. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Sue; three children; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Skokie. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. on Friday, May 4, at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to a local food bank, American Cancer Society, Congregation Anshai Emeth (Peoria) or to the charity of your choice, in care of the Butala Funeral Home and Crematory, 1405 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore, IL 60178. Pritzker Family:
Just a note. I didn't remember the first name, but I knew the last. I am sorry to hear that Bob has gone to the next stage of life. I hope that all of the good memories will help you all through this hard time. I am writing as I was a Miracle Mart employee for a time in the 70's working at the South Adams, and the Prospect stores. Brings back some memories. Once at the South Adams store there was a call for a carry out. It was my turn, or at least I went. It turned out to be a fan, and it wasn't to the car, it was to her place in Harrison Homes. It was a laugh for us all, but I felt good I had given customer service. Take care.

Dear Sue, Berny, Barbara and Nancy,

The picture of Bob jolts me into the reality of my own age. Whenever I think of him, I remember the energetic fun loving joke telling cousin who would entertain the entire family with his brother. Growing up, getting together with the Pritzkers was always such a treat. Bob, Sue and the entire family had become one of the strong memories of my youth.
Bob was such a good man, such a positive person and such a loving individual. I pray his wonderful memory will serve to comfort you in this heavy loss.
My thoughts are with you,
