Russell Gardner Obituary

Russell R. Gardner formerly of Arlington Heights Memorial services for Russell R. Gardner, 76, of Fontana, Wis., will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, at the Presbyterian Church, 6 Brinker Road, Barrington. A lunch reception will follow at Lake Barrington Shores, Barrington. Born Aug. 10, 1929, in Denver, the son of the late Thor and Margaret (nee Roosevelt) Gardner, he died Monday, June 26, 2006, at Harbor House of Lake Geneva in Lake Geneva, Wis., after a prolonged illness. Mr. Gardner graduated high school from Morgan Park Academy in Beverly, Ill. in 1947. He graduated from Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H., with a B.A. in History in 1951. Russ started his professional career as a salesman for the Elgin Watch Company and later worked for the Bulova Watch Company as well. In 1976, he founded Gardner & Geldmacher of Schaumburg and Itasca, Ill. and was part-owner for 20 years, retiring in 1996. On September 20, 1980, he remarried the former Barbara Robinson after having been married to Patricia Lindner for 23 years. In his retirement, Russell and Barbara traveled extensively and enjoyed splitting their time between their homes in Lake Geneva and Vero Beach, Fla. Russell is survived by his wife of 25 years, Barbara; his three children by his first wife Patricia, Susan P. (Stephen Blair) Gardner of Bellingham, Wash., Jeffrey R. (Jenny) Gardner of Barrington and David R. Gardner of Lake Zurich; stepchildren, Bill (Kristine) Michalson of Orlando, Fla. and Linda (Robert) Fortino of Fontana, Wis.; grandchildren, Wesley and Megan Gardner, and Forrest Gardner-Blair; stepgrandchildren, Andrew and Shea Blair, and Amy (Billy) Maher; sister, Betty (Al) Nelson of Sterling, Ill.; and brother, William (Marilyn) Gardner of Glenview. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, the Gardner family has requested memorials in Russell's name be made to the Parkinson's Association. Arrangements were made by the Haase-Derrick-Lockwood Funeral Home and Crematory in Lake Geneva, 262-248-2031.

My heartfelt condolences to the Gardner family. I have many fond memories of Russ from my very early days in the Incentive Industry. I always respected and trusted him. He was a unique and fine man who I've thought of often and I'll miss.

To the Gardner Family, we were so sorry to hear of your loss. We have often remembered back when our children were little and we spent a day with Barbara and Russ at their camp in the Colorado mountains. We enjoyed fly fishing and tubing down the river and a wonderful lunch. Russ seemed to enjoy himself so much and was happy to show us all how to fly fish and he even went tubing in the cold river. We know he will be missed and we hope that the good memories will help carry you through your grief.

All of the employees at Intermatic wish to express their sincere condolences to the Gardner family. Russ was the first person we did business with for our employee service awards and the relationship that we had with Russ grew to much more than just a business relationship, he became a true friend. The world was a better place for having Russ in it and his legacy lives on in his children.
