Sallie Mallach Obituary
In Loving Memory of Sallie Ann (Thomas) Mallach.
Sallie passed away at home, at the age of 83 on October 3, 2025.
Born on August 24, 1942, in New York City, Sallie was the beloved daughter of Wesley and Bettie Thomas. She grew up alongside her two brothers, Jerry Thomas (Lilia) and David Thomas (MaryLu).
While working at United Airlines, Sallie met her future husband, Larry Mallach, and they were married on August 30, 1964. Together they raised three children: Larry Mallach (Sara), Beth Ruttenberg (Allen), and Amy Weincouff (Doug). Later in life, Sallie was reunited with her first daughter, Kim Dixon (Murry)--a true gift from God.
Sallie was blessed with 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her immense joy.
After staying home to raise her children, Sallie returned to work as a reading aide at a local elementary school, a perfect fit for her lifelong love of reading. She faithfully served in the Awana program at church with the Sparks, attended women’s Bible studies, and participated in Ruth's Circle, a monthly gathering where she shared meals, laughter, and fellowship with friends.
Sallie had many passions, including crossword puzzles, playing Scrabble (she was the one to beat!), traveling, and spending time with family and friends. She was obsessed with plain M&M's except for the blue ones. She was also famously known for her delicious chocolate chip cookies, which she lovingly baked for family visits or as special birthday treats.
A woman of deep faith and unwavering kindness, Sallie was the rock of her family. She was always praying for her loved ones and offering a listening ear and words of encouragement. Sallie had a heart for helping others and never hesitated to drop everything to lend a hand.
Sallie was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Beth, and her brother Jerry.
A celebration of Sallie's life will be held at Calvary Community Church in Schaumburg, Illinois, on Saturday, November 8th, 2025. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by a service at 11:00 a.m.
