SARAH M. PANTANO

Sarah M. Pantano formerly of Lombard and Villa Park Sarah M. Pantano, 98, passed away Jan. 3, 2013, at the DuPage Convalescent Center, Wheaton, IL. She was born Jan. 7, 1914, to Sicilian immigrants, Guiseppe and Dominica (nee LaPorta) Pantano, in Chicago, IL. She had a lifelong devotion to her faith and family. Sarah had an infectious smile, always giving more than she took. She loved growing and drying flowers and herbs, winning many contests she had entered. She loved history, and spent time volunteering with the Lombard Historical Society, sharing her knowledge of herbs, flowers and their true essential oils, and the preparation and serving of "High Tea." She loved Chicago, working many years at V L & A, better known as Abercrombie & Fitch, and for a time at Rosenbloom & Associates in the Wrigley Building. She also worked for DuPage County, at the Treasurer's Office, Circuit Court Clerk's Office Child Support Division, and Sheriff's Office Warrant Division. Sarah is survived by her nieces, Marjorie (Bob) Barch, Connie Jo (Larry Roach) Pantano, Josephine (the late Lawrence) Caccippio and Claire (Brad) Raso; her nephew, Joseph (Liz) Affronti; and four generations of great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her siblings, Russell (Josephine Affronti) Pantano, Frances (Michael) Genovise, Rose (Charles) Affronti, Joseph Pantano, Anthony Pantano, Samuel (Susan Stroh) Pantano and Michael (Marge Schmalz) Pantano. Visitation will be on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, from 3 to 8 p.m. at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park, IL. Additional visitation will be Wednesday, Jan. 9, at St. Alexander Church Gathering Space, 300 S. Cornell, Villa Park, from 9 a.m. until the Mass time at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to DuPage Convalescent Center, 400 N.
