SCOTT SWISHER Obituary

Scott Neil Swisher III Scott Neil Swisher III passed away unexpectedly Sunday, June 17, 2012, at his home in Mundelein, Ill., at the age of 63. He is survived by his wife, Kim E. Swisher (nee Brown) of Binghamton, N.Y. and his most cherished son and namesake, Scott Neil Swisher IV of Madison, Wis. His father remarried after his mother passed away to Doris Swisher (nee Oberdorf-Copsidas) of West Palm Beach: Fla., who survives along with her son, Frank Copsidas of Portland, Maine; and a brother, Dr. Edward Swisher and his wife, Dr. Karen Klefstad and their children, Jordan and Kristin Swisher, all of East Lansing, Mich. Scott was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Scott Neil Swisher II and his mother, Edna Swisher (nee Briese) of East Lansing, Mich. Scott was born April 9, 1949, in St. Paul, Minn. He grew up in Rochester, N.Y. and settled in the Chicago area after graduating from Michigan State University. He accepted a position as an electrical engineer at Motorola Inc. in Schaumburg, III. and continued his career with the company as a devoted employee for 41 years working still at Motorola Mobility in Libertyville, III. as a distribution technical operations manager. Scott became successful in whatever position he held, at whatever location he was sent and with whatever problem needed solving. He valued his co-workers' dedication, enthusiasm and friendship. His family would refer to him as Mr. Motorola. Scott enjoyed time spent in his basement fixing items in need of repair using his own innovative methods. He was a ham radio operator N9EMO, would fly stunt kites, read, watch classic movies, refinish and restore antique tube radios and savor unique foods. He was proud to be an Eagle Scout. Lately, his thriving tomato plant and flowers were the talk amongst his neighbors. A memorial remembrance will be held Friday, Aug. 3, at 4 p.m. at one of Scott's favorite restaurants, Weber Grill in Schaumburg, III. Please e-mail [email protected] if you might attend. Contributions in Scott's honor can be made to Michigan State University Advancement, Spartan Way, 535 Chestnut Road, Room 300, East Lansing, MI 48824-1005 or to the American Heart Association, 3816 Paysphere Circle, Chicago, IL 60674-0001. I knew Scott in junior high when I we were consistently placed in the same grade for 3 years. We graduated later from Penfield High School in Penfield, NY, near Rochester. In January, 2012, Scott and I reconnected with a long phone call so he could be included in our class contact list. This year we are having our 50th class reunion and I tried to reach Scott to be sure he was getting our emails only to find his obituary. It is very disappointing that we won't see him soon, but we will be honoring him in our "In Memoriam" video production, etc. at our reunion. Belated condolences to his family....at least there are those of us who are continuing to remember him.

Scott and I were roommates at MSU. His easygoing personality made him a pleasure to be around. I can't recall him ever saying an unkind word about anyone. My condolences to Scott's family are belated but no less heartfelt.

I had the privilage of working with Scott at Motorola. Beyond being a great co-worker, Scott was a great gentleman and a very proud father. I have the highest regard for him and will miss him greatly. God Bless.

Scott and I worked together at Motorola on numerous projects over the last several years. Scott was always focused, driven and diligent about driving a solution to whatever problem we were trying solve. His passion for helping Motorola make things better will be missed.

Losing him was unexpected. I had just talked with him Thursday before his passing and he mentioned looking forward to a day off.

May god rest his soul. Sympathies to his family in this time of loss.

I happened to stumble across Scott's obituary as I was looking to contact old friends. Scott and I were friends, classmates & dorm mates in West Shaw Hall. I have fond memories of our time at MSU. I am a 1971 Chemical Engineering graduate. My prayers go out to you at the loss of Scott.
