Sophie Kania Obituary

Sophie Kania formerly of Arlington Heights Prayers for Sophie Kania (nee Sweda), 91, of Barrington, will be said at 9:15 a.m. Thursday, at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 201 N. Northwest Highway, Palatine. Mass will follow at 10 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church, 831 N. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights. Interment will be in St. Nicholas Ukranian Cemetery, Chicago. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today, at the funeral home. Born Oct. 27, 1913, in Chicago, she died Sunday, Dec. 12, 2004, at Governor's Park Nursing Center in Barrington. Survivors include her daughter, Sandra (Dominic) Positano; son, Paul B. (Teresa) Kania; grandchildren, Vincent (Teresa) and Jeffrey (Natasha) Positano, Laura (Troy) Bernstein, Gina Positano, Elizabeth (Andrew) Georgescu, Michael (Cathy), Daniel and Nicholas Kania; great-grandchildren, Vincent, Emily, Tony, Gianna, Rachel, Sedona, Ali and Mackenzie; and sister, Stephanie Cacioppo. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Kania; sister, Mae Hajewski; and brother, Peter Sweda. In lieu of flowers, Masses would be appreciated. For information‚ (847)358-7411.

Dear Kania Family,



My deepest sympthay in the loss of your dear Mother. I have fond memories of her when I was going out with John. She was fortunate to have 91 years on this earth. My John died July 11, 2004 at the age of 64.
