THOMAS FISHER Obituary

PALATINE - Thomas Walter Fisher, 67. Beloved husband of Cathleen, nee Vollertsen. Adored father of Brent (Danielle Greenberg) and Mallory (James Kosner) Fisher. Adored son of the late Roland Fisher and the late Zita Ann (the late Richard) Harrington. Dear brother of the late James Fisher and the late Laura Haiderer. Uncle of some, father to many, friend to everyone. Tom had an unmatched work ethic and founded an incredible landscaping business, The Fisher-Burton Company. But, his family always came first. Tom proudly hosted the Annual Scuppernog Golf Tournament with his friends in Michigan, one of his favorite places to be; where he walked the shores, Captained the boat, and watched the sun set or storms rolling in over the lake. He was a genuine man who had a light hearted sense of humor, and was known for his laughter, golf, and good food. There was nothing he would not do to make sure the people he loved were taken care of. Tom never met a stranger, and was truly loved by everyone. His charm, quick wit, and endearing heart will truly be missed by all. "It's all good." Funeral services held privately. Information, 847-359-8020 or visit www.smithcorcoran.com.

I have so many treasured memories of Tom but I’m a romantic and I live where the most mundane things are exciting and new.

This past summer Tom generously gifted me a brown crinkly bag filled with fresh, cleaned, corn on the Cobb. He excitedly verbalized instructions on how to get the optimal flavor from cooking them. I failed him by not following them strictly, I could tell by the slow deflated reply when I told him that I just didn’t get to it yet. You see, I didn’t realize time was of the essence. I don’t believe that I will ever be able to smell ripening corn without it evoking this memory of Tom or:

The smell of wood smoke from Tom stoking the fire as Cathi and I caught up over new reads or Douglas happenings.

The clinking of ice in a glass of scotch...

The fireside chats that were yet to come after the sheltering of Covid.

The wind tossing my hair as he and Cathi road us along the shoreline of an afternoon boat ride. Tom dancing with his hands in the air to the music through the sound system.

Perhaps one of the best things to happen was the chance for all of us to meet. Love and kindness is what matters the most. Your spirit will be missed Tom.

Having the honor of knowing Tom at MSU--our young days and in Greensboro, NC for the airport move--was always fun. Tom, serious as he was about other people, cared deeply that others were in a good place. He was one of our team members--Fisher, Parker, Donakowski, Fletcher and the others on the third floor at Butterfield Hall. We went to Florida, he in his little red TR7(?). We passed him as he was pulled over by the cops in Georgia on the trip down. He, being taller than most---gave the best hugs for all of his friends. He always, always made us laugh!
We all were blessed to have Tom as part of our young development.
Hearts, tears and blessing to you Tom's family.
