Thomas Patrick "Mac" McNamee

Thomas McNamee Obituary

Thomas Patrick "Mac" McNamee Thomas Patrick "Mac" McNamee, twin brother of Timothy R. "Mackers" McNamee, and son of JoAnne Mulvey and Roger McNamee, who was passionate about life and lived every moment to its fullest, peacefully passed away in his home, Thursday evening, June 11, 2009, surrounded by loving family and friends, and accompanied by his loyal pets. Thom was a unique man and charitable member of his community who was an Eagle Scout, attorney, businessman, entertainer, comedian, model/actor, tireless host, gentleman, consultant, contractor, athlete and world traveler. He attended Quincy College, graduated from Western Illinois University, where he belonged to Theta Xi and graduated John Marshall Law School. Thom was a volunteer for countless organizations and always gave to the community. Thom was a passionate rescuer of wildlife and advocated the preservation of woodland and natural spaces. He was a man who always made time for friends and family and opened his arms and welcomed people of all walks of life into his heart and brought them together. Those who knew him will remember his heart of gold. Thom is survived by his loving wife, Heather (nee Rooney); dedicated family members, brothers, Dennis, Phil (Debie), Terry, Jake and sisters, MariBeth, Sheila (David), Maureen (Bruce), Eileen (Jeff); his devoted friends; and his "little animal buddies." Thom will be deeply missed by all, and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday, at "The Ranch" on Route 31, with a private funeral service on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, Thom requests that donations be made to the Timothy R. McNamee Science Foundation at 10 N. River St., East Dundee, IL 60118. "We send Thom on to 'Happy Trails.' As a man who always had to have the last word, he leaves us with, 'NO WORRIES MATE!'" Arrangements were made by Laird Funeral Home, West Dundee, 847-836-8770.

Hi,

We are very sorry for the passing of Tom. His fantastic ideas of executing them into making Bandito's one of most favorite place's to relax and enjoy friends. We have been going to Bandito's since 1985. We call Bandito's home, so we hope the loved ones of Tom can maintain and keep Tom's dream alive and well.

Sincerely,

The Latuszek's & Friends

Unbelievable sadness.
Thoughts of David had come to mind.
I decided to look up the family on google and saw this.
My heart goes out to those left behind.

I am only now learing of Thom's untimely passing. I had the 'pleasure' of knowing and working with Thom for much 0 2006 while with the Village. His 'can do' and 'let's get done' take on everything was infectious to a new administrator; but most of all his willingness to reach out, be a friend and help the community and me will never be forgotten. I shall miss the 'ol mate!

It was devastating to hear of Thom's passing. We became fast friends 17 years ago when we met, and I have countless amazing memories with him, for which I am extremely grateful.

Thom was an impeccable friend and his magnetic energy was felt in every room he entered and every heart he touched. I am truly blessed to have known him. He will be deeply missed.

My condolences to the entire McNamee family.

June 29, 2009

I only met Thom once, but he purchased my father's home in rural West Dundee after my father passed away. I drove in to relive some old memories one day last year, and quickly saw that my father's spirit and love of nature was alive and well via Thom.

I can only hope the next owner is as caring and giving as both owners of the home on Binnie Road were.

Rest in Peace,

Tom Morency

To Heather, the McNamee family and Thom's dearest friends,

It was with great shock and sadness that I learned of Thom's passing while I was in Alaska on vacation. My prayers of remembrance and respect were surrounded by the magnificent mountains, soaring eagles and sea vistas of Alaska. As I prayed, I observed the playful antics of the sea lions, sea otters and whales as they splashed in the Alaskan waters. What a very appropriate and unique way to pay my respects to Thom. Somehow, I know he approved!

There are so many memories and so few words. I will never forget my memories of Wall Street, the Ranch, Irish Rebel football games, Bandito Barney's - and so much more.

Ellen and I deeply regret that we were unable to attend Thom's wake last week to show our support to Thom's family and friends. Our hearts and prayers are with you during this painful time. If there is ever anything that we can possibly do, we are here.

Please remember that love always lives on. There is no possible way to ever forget a man as truly unforgettable as Thom. We were so very lucky to have blessed by both Tim and Thom during this life.

Happy trails Thom.......

I met both Mac & Mackers on July 5, 1974, at a bar named Dirty Nellie's in Palatine. It was one of the most memorable nights of my entire life; impossible to forget.

Through the years (until 1986, when I moved out of state) I formed an unconventional relationship with the two of them; although I was much closer to Mackers, their resemblances were uncanny. Never a dull
moment - always livin' on the edge! I'll always be grateful to the both of them for showing me what it's like to really experience life, not just live it.....quite a difference.

And, to this day, Mackers' Theta Xi frat pic sits in it's place on my dresser, looking larger than life. His "Weatherguard Roofing" card is carefully tucked into the back of the frame. He will forever be in my heart, prayers, and memories; as will Thom.

My heartfelt sympathy to the entire family on such a great loss. May God hold you and yours in his loving arms, and be your strength through these difficult times.

My sincerest condolences,
Mackers' "Sunshine"

Dear Thom,
Your love, spirit and kindness which you gave so freely will live in perpetuity. From the pod of us who worked together in the early '80's, we will never forget your smile and laughter and for this we will always be in your eternal debt. My now ex-wife Krissy played your on camera daughter (which sort of boggles the mind) in a photo shoot and she often commented on how much of a gentleman you were, that my friend is a bell that never stopped ringing. Thank you. Sleep tight mate, you are loved and missed.

PEACE

June 18, 2009

Some losses are so devastating they can effect an entire generation of both family and friends. Thom's passing is one of these. His thirst for experiencing everything life had to offer was unquenchable. His drive, ability, and warmth toward both old friends and new ones will always be remembered. There can never be enough words to describe the terrible loss every family must endure. But where ever Thom is, he's busy making improvements and finding new team mates!

My dear friend, Thom,
What a strange - strange trip it's been, my friend. I don't possess the strength to bring to this page the words that justify the memories which fill my heart from our friendship of so many years ago. We were wild boys on the streets of Chicago sharing the laughter and bravado as young men so often do.
Peace through the ages my Irish friend..

My deepest sympathy to the entire McNamee family. I had met Thom and Tim when they both walked into my photo studio together one day. I new Thom for a number of years and photographed him quite a bit too. He was so great to be around...always up and cheerful. When we would get together, we couldn't stop laughing...neither Tommy or I could tell you what we were laughing about - we would just start laughing. This never got in the way of doing a terrific job- he was the total professional. He always tried to make everyones job and life a little bit easier. He was probably one of the finest people that I ever have met. I bless that day we met. Once more, I'm deeply sorry for your great loss. He'll always shine in my memory. With warmest regards,
Don Levey...

I met Thom 20 years ago and kept in touch for awhile, and every once in awhile I kept saying that I would like to see how he was doing. This goes to show that you should live every day to the fullest and keep in touch with old friends because you never know what could happen. You will be missed. Thanks Thom for memories and peace to you.. my friend...

I have been a friend and employee of Thom's for the last 4 years and I have never met anyone in my life like Thom McNamee. Heather and Thom took care of me and my friends who worked for them on their woods like we were family. I had the honor of taking a lot of nature hikes with Thom and sharing some beers with him too. And he taught me so much by just being himself. I have told so many people about Thom over the years because he is the type of person you never forget.

He was my role model because he embodied generosity, success, humor, love, passion, hardwork and so many other virtues. He also cared deeply for the wild lands, open spaces and native plants and animals. Tom had such a big heart.

I've had the honor of helping Thom restore the forests on his property and Thom was truly a man of compassion and conservation. Every project we did together was grand due to Thom's vision and heart.

All your Wisconsin forest friends will miss you, Thom. You have inspired us in your life to carry on those virtues you have taught us.

You will never be forgotten, your stories will live on in us. And I will do my best to protect your woods and all the animals in it.

My prayers and love to the McNamee Family.

God Bless,

I have many fond memories of times at Banditos. Banditos was one of the first bars I have ever worked at, and I upheld every other place to the standards Thom set (they were never met). Thom was a great man, I just remember him being so proud, proud of East Dundee, proud of Bandito's and it's employees. Thom was so positive and always smiling. I have fond memories and I'm sure so many others do. My prayers and thoughts are with you McNamee family. Heather-I love your smiling face, you two really did make an impact in my life, you are in my thoughts and prayers sincerely.

I met Thom once about 20 years ago, and remember his kindness to this day. I ran out of gas right in front his house on Rte 31 and he went out of his way to find me a can with some fuel in it. I grew up two doors down from Tim And Thom. As a nieghborhood in the 50's and 60's went we had our up's and down's. We had our share of brawls. But we were friends for life. I moved out to the boons and eventually to Las Vegas. I hadn't talked to Thom for many years. When I retired and returned to Rockford, I soon took a day trip to Dundee with my wife to do some remanicing. We ran into Thom down by the old lumber yard where he was of course supervising one of his rennovation projects. We all hugged each other and talked for a long time about his life and ours. In just that short time I realized how he had grown into this amazing man. He was gracious and pleasant and full of humor. It felt good to be with him and I was very proud to be his friend. And in just that short time I realized What an icon he had grown into in the Dundee community and all the good he had brought this town. I will remember Thom as one of the most wonderful and amazing people that has touched me in my life. I didn't see him much in our later years, but I will miss him all my life to come. Bye Thom.

We were honored to do business on River Street with you, Thom.
You were always kind, generous and endorsing.
May God reign down peace on your family left on this earth and if they do not know God, may they seek and find Him.
