William J. Bauer

William J. Bauer of Wheaton A memorial service for Mr. William John Bauer, 80, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at the Commons at College Church, 332 E. Seminary, Wheaton. Born Sept. 20, 1923, in Des Plaines, the son of William and Olive Bauer, he died Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at his home. Interment will be private in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood. Mr. Bauer was a veteran of the Air Force. He was self employed as a consulting engineer and was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers. He was a member of Gideons International, College Church in Wheaton, and a board member of the Institute for Creation Research. Mr. Bauer was a contributing editor for the "Handbook of Applied Hydraulics," Third Edition, and was recognized by "Engineering News Record" as the originator of Chicago's Deep Tunnel plan. He is survived by his wife, Marybelle Bauer; children, John A. (Pamela) Bauer of Wheaton, William M. (Carla) Bauer of Appleton, Wis., Penelope (Dr. William) Thrasher of Wheaton and Holly (Dr. Dennis) Johnson of Charleston, W.Va.; nine grandchildren; one sister; and one brother.
