GENEVA - William T. "Bill" Flaherty, Jr., age 87, formerly of Roselle, passed away, peacefully, in his sleep Saturday, October 30, 2021, at Greenfields of Geneva. He was born August 30, 1934, in Chicago, the son of William and Alice (Lee) Flaherty. Bill loved traveling with his wife, Kay, seeing the world from the deck of a cruise ship, even though he was deathly afraid of water. He was an avid reader, could always be found with a book in his hand, and truly enjoyed his years working at the Arlington Heights Memorial Library. He liked to say that he was full of useless bits of information before the Internet was even invented. As an accountant, Bill always took a keen interest in financial matters, and usually had the CNBC stock ticker scrolling across his television so he could keep an eye on his finances. Bill had a wonderful sense of humor. His favorite joke was to ask people to read his initials out loud "WTF." If they "got" the joke, he knew they would become good friends. Bill is survived by his daughters, Mary (Michael) Antenore of Geneva, Katie (Tim) Harrison of Roselle, and Joan (Michael) Elmore of West Dundee; grandchildren, Ashley and Alex Antenore, Caitlin (Mike) O'Connell, Colleen (Vince) Lorig, and Liam Harrison, Riley and Lily Elmore; great-grandchildren, Aiden and Lincoln Lorig; and many other dear relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Edwin; son-in-law, Michael Elmore; and his devoted wife, Catherine "Kay," who passed away in 2010. Funeral prayers for Bill will be held Monday, November 8, 2021 at 9:30 am at Malone Funeral Home, 324 E. State Street (Route 38), Geneva, proceeding to St. Peter Catholic Church, 1891 Kaneville Road, Geneva for celebration of Funeral Mass at 10:30 am with Father John McFadden, Celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery in Palatine. Visitation will be held Sunday, November 7 from 1:00 - 5:00 pm at Malone Funeral Home, with a liturgical wake service at 4:45 pm with Deacon Greg D'Anna officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Arlington Heights Memorial Library, 500 N. Dunton Ave., Arlington Heights, IL 60004 would be appreciated. For information, 630-232-8233 or
