He was the fourth child among eight siblings. He confessed and accepted Christ as his personal savior at the age of ten. He was baptized by Reverend Shed on the flat bridge in Silver Run, AL. He later joined the Rocky Mount Baptist Church in Oxford, AL and became an ordained deacon. Deacon Knox worshipped with several churches such as Shady Grove Baptist Church and Sweet Home Baptist Church. His most recent membership was with Salem Missionary Baptist Church. Deacon Knox was well known for his soulful voice in singing his favorite hymns, "Come and Go to that Land" and "Be Ready When He Comes." He graduated from Calhoun County Training School in 1955. On a sunny day on Sunday, September 6, 1959, "C" married Mildred Davis at Sweet Home Baptist Church. They were blessed with over 63 years of matrimonial bliss. Instead of buying wedding rings, they spent their money towards building a home. "C" built his first home with assistance from his dad in Oxford at the age of 20. This was only the beginning of his many talents in life. "C" believed that hard work made you a responsible person. He was the pianist for Sunday School at Rocky Mount Church at a young age. While "C" was in the 11th grade, he became a bus driver and transported the students to school. In addition, "C" worked at Sprayberry Service Station in which he changed oil and tires as well as pumped gas in cars. He was a baker at Electric Maid Bakery on Noble Street. "C", his brother Cleophas, and dad Levather were entrepreneurs in their own business, Knox Sanitation Company. He became certified in auto body and fender repair and was a master at plumbing. Furthermore, he worked at Higginbotham Printing for 25 years. "C" received perfect attendance for working 13 years without taking time off at Hallden Machine Company. He worked various jobs: Anniston Star, John Layton Machine Shop, JC Penny's stockroom, airport, and Werner Ladder Company. He performed janitorial services at First National Bank and was a security guard at Garret Company. His last job before retirement was working at Munford Elementary School as a cook, custodian, and substitute teacher. "C" was a faithful servant who exemplified the role as a husband, daddy, granddaddy, and great-granddaddy. Daddy bestowed his life by being the overseer of the family. He made sure his family had fresh vegetables and fruits to eat by planting a garden. He taught us how to make fertilizer as well as how to lay a sweet potato bed. Nobody was granted exceptions when it came to harvesting the sweet potatoes in the morning. He would be grinning as he showed Mildred, children and grandchildren the tomatoes, squashes, green beans, peas, corn, okra, sweet potatoes, blueberries, figs, grapes, muscadines, and plums he planted. It was his joy to share the garden harvest with friends, and to give fresh vegetables to the elderly community. Moreover, he provided sweet potato slips to 4-H Extension that distributed his slips to families in the black belt counties in south Alabama. On Friday, October 4, 2024, God dispatched his holy angels to receive "C". God gently whispered in Daddy's ear that his job on earth was fulfilled. Matthew 25:21, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord." As "C" answered the Master's call, he was firm in his unwavering faith, Psalm 23:4, "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me." God displayed his mighty power that his will was done. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Mildred Knox and siblings, Elsieleen Knox and Emma Chatmon. Daddy will be truly missed by his children who were captivated by his wisdom. As our beloved Patriarch has answered God's call, he left his children precious memories forever embedded in their hearts. Daddy gave us extraordinary guidance and compassion in how to deal with life. You taught us, Daddy, whenever we had problems in life to come to a quiet place and talk to God early in the morning. Daddy was a provider for his children and was willing to help you. As Daddy has gained his wings, the family has relied on prayer and faith that he has left them. Daddy's favorite Bible scripture, Psalm 23:1, was always his strength: "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want." Daddy, you demonstrated through your hard work of planting a garden and working many jobs that God will provide. Psalm 37:23, "The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way." God overfilled your storehouse that you did not lack for anything. Daddy, most importantly you taught us to resolve situations in life by always quoting to us, "Pray about it and put it in God's hands." "C" leaves a legacy of unrestricted love and esteemed memories to forever be cherished by: five children, Ronald (Betty) Knox of Oxford, Alabama, Annette (Glenn) Turner, Beverly (Ted) Mitchell, Sabrina (Talmor) Jackson, and Reginald Cordell (LaShandra) Knox, all of Montgomery, Alabama; six grandchildren who he loved unconditionally, Teldra (Malik) Thomas, Britney Knox, Whitney Knox, Eboni Gardner, Shamar Mitchell, and Desmond Jackson; one great-grandchild who he adored and called "Little Man", Kofi Thomas; siblings, Dollie Mae Fomby, Cleophas "Cle" Knox, Levather "Sess" Whitby, Edna "Baby Doll" Knox, and Naola (Aaron) Thrasher; in-laws, Alice Clark, Ester Montgomery, Mary Jane Davis, and John L. Davis; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, caregivers, and friends. Daddy, WE LOVE YOU! Forever at last, "C" and Mildred have finally been rejoined. S.M.
