Glenda Gail Parker Obituary

Funeral Services for Mrs. Glenda Gail Baker Parker, age 88 of Birmingham, will be held on Sunday, June 23, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home with Pastor Brian Wirges officiating. Burial will follow at the adjoining gardens. Glenda Gail Baker Parker, age 88, of Birmingham, passed away surrounded by family in her home on Thursday, June 20, 2024. She is preceded in death by her high school sweetheart and her one and only true love, Charles Thomas Parker, her parents James Horace and Lessie Hamilton Baker and her brother Gene Baker. Gail has been cared for and loved by her daughters Terri Amari (John) of Trussville, Ginger Houchins (Alan) of Gardendale, and her seven grandchildren, who all claim to have been her favorite, Katie Nero, Johnny Amari (Ambre), Joseph Amari, Mary Bruce (David), Kristen Wirges (Brian), Emily Caudle (Neil), and Justin Houchins (Mary)….debate is still out on who was actually the favorite. Gail was known as Memaw to her seven grandchildren. They each married and started families of their own. With 23 great-grandchildren, Memaw had such joy and pride in each of them and loved spending her days with her family and giving away cokes. Gail is a Sylacauga native, where she attended BB Comer High School. Gail was a majorette at Comer High School, where she spent her time twirling, gaining the attention of her love, Charles Parker, who was the quarterback of the high school team. After high school Charles enlisted in the Air Force and they soon married and served their country in Colorado Springs, Colorado. They started their family in Colorado with the birth of their daughter, Terri. Following four years of service they moved back to their roots in Alabama and grew their family once more with the birth of their second daughter, Ginger. Gail and her best friend, Anne McNeal, had a love for adventure. They would travel and explore new places near and far. While they loved adventure, they also loved the local church. Gail was a member of Wilson Chapel United Methodist, but attended Clear Branch United Methodist that was closer to her home and found herself plugged into a ladies small group. Gail was passionate about Auburn football and was considered to be their biggest fan. She may have been petite in size and gentle in her voice, but on Saturday mornings in the Fall the tiger in her came out. At Thanksgiving it became the running joke in the family not to discuss the Iron Bowl, even though her Alabama loving grandkids would always find a way to sneak it in. Memaw will be missed dearly. While the smell of her perfume and the pink lips she left behind from her kisses are no longer tangible, her legacy will live on. What a joy and what a honor it is to have her as our mom and memaw.Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 23, 2024 from 1:00 P.M. until service time at 2:00 P.M. at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home.
