Jo Lowe Obituary

Mrs. Jo Hightower Lowe, 60, of LaFayette, died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010, at Bethany House in Auburn after a courageous 6 1/2 year battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church of LaFayette on Friday, Feb. 12, at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at the LaFayette City Cemetery. Mrs. Lowe was born Oct. 13, 1949 to Morris and Sara Hightower in Sylacauga. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from Samford University and taught at Sylavon Elementary School in Sylacauga for two years and at Eastside Elementary in LaFayette for three years. Mrs. Lowe worked with her husband in the family business, Lowe's Pharmacy, as the wedding and gift coordinator. Her love for flowers led her to direct and arrange flowers for numerous weddings in the local area. She was an active member of LaFayette First Baptist Church where she was chairman of the Flower Committee and a member of the Buildings and Grounds Committee. She was also a member of The LaFayette Study Club and had served on the Zoning Committee for the City of LaFayette for a number of years. Mrs. Lowe was preceded in death by her father, Morris Hightower. She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Lewis Lowe of LaFayette; two sons, Russell (Yvette) Lowe, Auburn and Matthew Lowe, LaFayette; mother, Sara Hightower, Sylacauga; sisters, Meg (Rick) Pettey, Decatur and Amy Bunch, Columbia, S.C.; granddaughter, Annelise Lowe, Auburn; and nine nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Thursday, Feb. 11, from 6-8 p.m. at First Baptist Church in LaFayette. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to First Baptist Church of LaFayette Building Fund or to LaFayette First United Methodist Church. Pallbearers will be Chan Brinson, David Denney, Mike Hand, Cal McRae, Jim Tucker, and Joey Waid. Jeff Jones Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Tim Childers officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery. Mr. Hammock went to be with The Lord February 10, 2010 at Trinity Medical Center, Birmingham. John 3:16. Mr. Hammock was a native of Sylacauga, and employed by the City of Talladega. He is survived by his wife, Rosanne M. Hammock of Sylacauga; daughters, Kimberly M. McGinnis (Rebel) of Sylacauga, Christine K. Mitchell (Jason) of Munford, and Katie L. Hammock of Sylacauga; grandchildren, Bryan Mitchell McGinnis, Brittany J. McGinnis, Tiffany L. McGinnis, and Kaylan M. McGinnis, all of Sylacauga; sister, Sheila K. Waters (Jeff) of California; nephew Jonathan Mitchell Waters of Ventura, California. Visitation will be at Curtis and Son North Chapel, Friday, February 12, 2010, 5:00-8:00 p.m. Condolences may be offered at www.curtisandsonfh.com Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel will direct the service.

To the Lowe and Hightower Family,

I will forever miss our wonderful friend, Jo. Please know that we are praying that God's comfort and peace will surround you during this journey of grief. We will be lifting each of you with prayers in the weeks to come. Her beautiful smile, love for others and gracious heart shall be missed forever.

There is no doubt that Jo is in the audience of God. I am sure that she is in awe of His Holy presence.
