John Richard Satain Jr.

John Richard Sartain Jr. passed away Saturday, August 3, 2013 at 68 years of age. He was the son of John Richard Sartain Sr. of Oakman, AL and Geraldine Farris Sartain of Tuscaloosa, AL. Originally from Birmingham, AL, John attended Woodrow Wilson Elementary, Phillips High School, and graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in English. He was drafted out of college and served in the Vietnam War where he was awarded two Bronze Stars for acts of heroism and meritorious service in a combat zone. Upon returning from the war John earned a Master's degree in Education of the Deaf from the University of Alabama. He went on to a 25 year career teaching at the Alabama Institute for the Deaf and Blind. After retirement, John spent three years teaching English at Coosa Valley Academy. John is survived by his wife Linda Malone Sartain, his two sons; Michael Malone Sartain of Los Angeles CA, wife Glenda, granddaughter Adaline, Sean Patrick Sartain, wife Christine, grandchildren Lake and West; and his sister Bonnie Sartain Palmer, husband Jessie, of Birmingham, AL. He was a brave, kind, giving person who always thought of others before himself. He will be missed. Graveside services will be held at 1:00pm, Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at Providence Baptist Church Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Kilgore-Green Funeral Home directing.
