Shelby Jean Creed

Shelby Jean Creed was called home to join her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday afternoon, March 30, 2024, following a brief battle against pancreatic cancer. Born on December 15, 1938, Mrs. Creed was a lifelong resident of Talladega County, where she spent 62 of her 85 years married to Shelton Lee Creed, who preceded her in death, passing on October 23, 2020. Funeral services for Mrs. Creed will be held on Saturday, April 6, at 2 p.m. Her family will receive friends at the Ironaton Church of Christ from noon until 2 p.m. with interment to follow the service in the church cemetery. Usrey Funeral Home of Talladega will direct the service with Cliff Goodwin officiating and Rick Nichols leading congregational singing. Shelby and Shelton were active members of the Ironaton community throughout their lives and were beloved members of the Ironaton Church of Christ family. They took great pride in tending to their slice of heaven on earth on Ironaton Road, growing tomatoes, peppers and other vegetables every year. Mrs. Creed was also well known in the Talladega community where she worked for many years as a clerk at Cowboy Hubbard's Trading Post, making many friends and acquaintances in the community. She also owned her own cloth shop in Talladega for several years, meeting and befriending many more in the community there. Mrs. Creed is survived by her only child, Jimmy Ward Creed of Ironaton. She is also survived by her aunt Geraldine Gurley, cousins Gwen Johnson, Travis Oglesby and Dwight Oglesby as well as seven nieces and nephews in addition to her dear sister-in-law Peggy Robinson. In addition to her late husband, she was also preceded in death by her father Aubrey "Buck" Robinson, her mother Julia Cox, her brother Lloyd Robinson and her sister Veralyn Brown. Friends of Mrs. Creed who will serve as pall bearers are Cade Goodwin, Mickey Haney, Dale Harris, Ricky Hazel, Scott Stephens and Ricky Watts. C.J. Johnson, Jerry Mayo, Scotty Bishop, Phillip Gallahar, and Rodney Williams will serve as honorary pall bearers. Online condolences may be offered at www.usreyfuneralhome.com.
