Terence Troy Datcher

Terence Troy Datcher was born in Pell City, Alabama, on April 23, 1968. Affectionately known as "Troy" he was baptized and became a member of the Baker's Grove Baptist Church in Vincent, Alabama, where he participated in many church activities. Troy held family in the highest regard, always aiming to set a positive example and take on a leadership role for his loved ones. He often said, "I'm the oldest of Big Mama's grandkids, so I must be a success to show our family what we must do." Troy was so proud that Big Mama's grandkids are responsible and hardworking individuals. Troy attended Vincent Elementary, Middle, and High Schools, where he excelled in his studies and participated in many school activities. He was a member of the Beta Club, Future Farmers of America, the state championship track team, and the marching band, where he was a fantastic drummer. During his Senior year of high school, following a campus visit and a great scholarship offer, Troy decided to attend Gettysburg College with the encouragement and support of his mother and cousin Diane. Troy's experience at Gettysburg was transformational. He became one of the first African-American student body senators and eventually rose to the position of Vice President. He was also the President of the Black Student Union and led efforts to create the annual Black Greek step show, which became one of the biggest celebrations in the area. Troy was a DJ on the campus radio station and was the youngest student at the time to be hired by a major corporation for a summer internship. After his second summer with the company, Troy was offered a position with The Procter & Gamble Company as he entered his senior year of college. The hand of God has always been on Troy. He left Proctor & Gamble after nine and a half years of service. He joined The Clorox Company in 1999 as a sales merchandising manager, responsible for sales and share growth for the Northeast Region of the United States grocery market. He quickly became known as an up-and- coming member of the Sales organization and relocated to Clorox's corporate headquarters in Oakland after several years with the Company. As Regional Sales Manager for Science Technology Performance (STP), Troy was introduced to NASCAR and fell in love with the sport. On June 18, 2004, Big Mama's birthday, Troy met Shannon, the love of his life, at the Claremont Resort in Berkeley, California. That night, Shannon told Troy that he would change her life, which was the beginning of their amazing love story. Troy followed his passion for NASCAR in 2006 when he relocated to Charlotte, North Carolina, and served as Sponsorship and Marketing Director for the famed #21 Wood Brothers and JTG/Daugherty Racing. He was responsible for more than $20 million in annual sponsorship revenue in this role. In 2009, Troy returned to California and married his soulmate, Shannon. Troy, Shannon, and their daughter, Nyah, resided in Oakland, California, and had a wonderful family life. Troy was the ultimate volleyball dad and loved to cheer Nyah on from the sidelines at volleyball tournaments nationwide. Troy loved to travel, and the family will never forget their 2019 trip to Italy, multiple trips to the Bahamas, and Troy's "happy place," Las Vegas! One of his proudest moments was seeing Nyah graduate from the University of California, Los Angeles, in June 2023. Upon his return to California, Troy rejoined The Clorox Company, and his career flourished. During his 20-year combined tenure at Clorox, he served in multiple roles, including Director of Sales Planning, Vice President – Global Customer Capability Development, and Sports Marketing. Troy leveraged his passion for sports marketing to provide strategic direction and management of Clorox's multimillion-dollar annual MLB, NASCAR, NBA, NFL, and College Football investments. He then became Vice President of Sales and Sales Planning. Troy reached the pinnacle of his career at Clorox in 2019 when he was named Senior Vice President and Chief Customer Officer responsible for the Company's worldwide sales organization. As Chief Customer Officer, Troy deployed global sales plans for over $6.7 billion in annual revenue across The Clorox Company's vast portfolio of brands. In 2021, Troy made history and became the first Black Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of a major publicly traded cannabis company. As CEO of The Parent Company (TPCO), Troy was honored to be at the forefront of shaping the future of the cannabis industry. He recognized the unique opportunity to disrupt a sector that had disproportionately impacted communities of color and partner with cultural powerhouses like JAY-Z to create a new cannabis infrastructure rooted in diversity, equity, and justice. After TPCO merged with The Gold Flora Corporation in 2023, Troy served as Chairman of the Board of the newly combined company. In addition to being an accomplished executive, Troy gave back to his community. Before his passing, he served as Secretary and a member of the board of trustees for his beloved Gettysburg College. While on the Gettysburg Board, Troy also chaired the Diversity and Inclusion sub- committee and was on the search committee for the new college president. He was also passionate about serving his local community and served as the Chair of the East Oakland Youth Development Center Foundation. While at Clorox, Troy served on the board of The Clorox Company Foundation and was the executive sponsor of the African-American Employee Resource Group. In 2016, Troy felt privileged to be chosen as a member of the Executive Leadership Council (ELC), the foremost organization dedicated to cultivating Black executives worldwide. He wholeheartedly embraced the ELC's mission to create avenues for Black executives to make a difference in business and the community. Troy found joy in mentoring young Black executives, eagerly sharing his expertise, and participating in ELC events nationwide. Troy's outstanding achievements were recognized throughout his life. In 2021, Troy was named to Modern Sales Top 100 Sales Leaders and is a two-time Ebony Magazine Power 100 honoree (2015 and 2020). Savoy Magazine recognized Troy as one of the top 100 Black Executives for four consecutive years. Troy was a gifted orator and was often asked to share his journey on panels and as a keynote speaker. Audiences were enthralled by his eloquent delivery and inspired by his words. Troy was a trailblazer and built a legacy based on his love for his family, friends, hometown, and everyone who was blessed to know him. He was absolutely one of a kind, and our lives are forever better because of the time God gave us with him. He lived unapologetically as a literal force of nature, armed with an unassailable sense of integrity and powered by an insatiable appetite for achievement. Troy was fueled by the faith of generations who came before us that prayed for the day when we all could chase our dreams to the fullest, limited only by the talent God gave us and how hard we were willing to work to make them reality. Troy was preceded in death by his grandparents Henry Ellon Datcher & Mary Bertha Bush and Joe "Tip" & Gracie Hamilton, special Aunts Mattie Youngblood and Janice Hamilton, and generations of aunts and uncles. Troy leaves to cherish his memories a loving and devoted wife, Shannon, daughter and the apple of his eye, Nyah, a dedicated and loving mother, Margaret (Frederick) Kidd, father, Earnest (Cherry) Hamilton; brothers Kelvin (Korliss) Datcher, Wayne Hamilton; sisters Phyllis (Pastor Thomas) Kelley, Clayandria Marie Jews, Zaneta (Richard) Harrison, Tammy (Daryl) Dark, and Arkell Kelley; special nieces and nephews, Jade, Jackson, Zachary, Zoe, Josiah, Callie, and Halle; a special aunt, Ola Clancy; three bonus Brothers and Sisters; special cousins raised as siblings; mentor, and cousin Diane Datcher; extended family; his Brotherhood; and a vast network of friends.
