Larry Jones, 83
Larry Ray Jones
October 23, 1941 – May 24, 2025
Larry Ray Jones, 83, of Havre, Montana, passed away peacefully after his courageous battle with esophageal cancer on May 24, 2025. Born on October 23, 1941, in Kalispell, Montana, Larry lived a full and generous life, dedicated to his family, his work, and hobbies.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Darlene Kay Jones; his brother, Floyd Jones; and his three sons, Danny Jones (Kimberly), Kelly Jones (Amy), and Randy Jones (Jess). Larry was a proud grandfather to Jacob Jones (Maria), Hannah Pierce (Connor), Austin Jones, and Melanie Jones. He found great joy in his great-grandchildren, Lucy Pierce and Callahan Pierce. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carlos "Ike" and Farol May Jones, and his sister, Bonnie Carruthers.
Larry was cherished by many nieces, nephews, and cousins, and he loved nothing more than visiting with them and sharing stories, laughter, and memories.
While living in Spokane, Washington, Larry met the love of his life, Darlene Kay. Their connection was immediate and enduring-within less than a year, they were joyfully married on August 11, 1962. Together, they built a beautiful life grounded in love, faith, and family.
A lifelong learner and hard worker, Larry was deeply proud of completing the Coulee Dam apprenticeship program, which launched his career as a hydroelectric power plant operator. This accomplishment provided not only a fulfilling life for his family but also opened the door to further success as an electrical substation operator and power distributions manager. His service to his country included six years in the National Guard.
After retiring, he and his wife moved to Havre, Montana, and spent the past 25 years enjoying beautiful sunrises and sunsets, walking trails, and visiting their sons, daughters-in-law, and grandchildren in Havre. He and Darlene relished their trips out east to visit their son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren and great grandchildren in Pennsylvania and later in Ohio.
Outside of work, Larry found joy in the outdoors-fishing and hunting with family and cheering on his grandchildren in their many sports and activities. He also enjoyed sharing a nice cold beer with friends and family as well as cheering on his favorite basketball team, Go Zags! His smile and laugh were truly contagious, lighting up every room and gathering.
In one of his most remarkable late-life accomplishments, Larry provided a new home for his wife at the age of 80. They enjoyed the past three years together in the house they lovingly designed.
In recent years, Larry found a new passion: collecting, stratifying, germinating, and planting acorns. His young oak trees were a source of great pride and peace. In honor of Larry's love of nature and new beginnings, the family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers or gifts, friends and loved ones plant a tree in his memory. If you do, please share this with his wife or children so they may know that Larry's legacy continues to grow.
Larry had a steadfast faith in Jesus Christ, and his family finds deep comfort in knowing that he is now with his Savior, at peace and whole again in the presence of the Lord. Throughout his treatment, he often commented that he was the blessed one as he reflected on his life, expressing deep gratitude for the love, memories, and grace he had experienced.
A note of gratitude from Larry's family to the Sletten Cancer Center, hospice, his doctors, and Angel Care for their kindness and support in the last few months of his journey. At this time, no public services are planned. A small family memorial will be held at a later date. Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements. Please visit Larry's online memorial page to send a card or leave a message of condolence for his family at

Larry will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the blessing of knowing him.
