Darrell GREENWOOD Pluntz A Life Well-Lived:
1942 - 2025
Darrell E. Pluntz, 83, of Greenwood, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 18th. Born on July 24, 1942, in San Diego, California, Darrell spent his formative years in Rice Lake, Wisconsin, before moving to Indianapolis at age 13. He graduated from Tech High School in the Class of 1960 and quickly answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Navy at 17, where he served with pride from 1960 to 1963 aboard the Douglas H. Fox destroyer out of Norfolk, Virginia.
Shortly after beginning his Naval service, Darrell met Beverly Conrad, the love of his life. Their whirlwind romance led to a marriage that spanned an extraordinary 63 years, blessed with four children. Darrell devoted much of his career to working as a machine engineer and salesman, demonstrating dedication and skill in his profession.
Beyond his work, Darrell's passions enriched the lives of those around him. He relished fishing trips with family and friends, spent countless hours coaching his three sons in baseball, and was known for his love of cars. In later years, he embraced woodworking and painting, generously sharing his creations-cribs, rocking horses, and toys-with his cherished grandchildren. Card games were a favorite pastime, and he was a loyal supporter of the Colts and Pacers, always hoping to see them triumph.
Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, Noble and Dorthy (Lisk) Pluntz, and his sister Marilyn (Pluntz) Powell. He is survived by his beloved wife, Beverly (Conrad) Pluntz; daughter Kimberly (Muhannad) Emeish; sons Darren (Becky) Pluntz, William (Colleen) Pluntz, and Kenneth (Annie) Pluntz; eight grandchildren-Chad & Courtney; Lindsay, Christian & Jenna; Matthew & Taylor; and Maya-and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Diane (Pluntz) Rowe and Margel (Pluntz) Dostal.
Darrell leaves behind a legacy of love, creativity, and service. His memory will be cherished by all who had the privilege to know him. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, August 29th from 10:30 am - 2:30 pm @ Forest Lawn Funeral Home 1977 S State Rd 135, Greenwood, IN 46143
