Davis Syrus Obituary

Mr. David Harold Syrus, Greenwood, passed away peacefully on the evening of Thursday, September 25, 2025. He was 79 years old.

David was born November 13, 1945, in Indianapolis, Indiana; a son of the late Harold Eugene Syrus and Martha Jane (Suesz) Morgan. He attended Arsenal Technical High School, graduating with the Class of 1964. Soon after, he proudly and honorably served his country in the United States Navy from 1964 to 1968 during Vietnam.

As a lifelong electrician, David dedicated 33 years of service to RCA until the closing of the plant. Not one to be idle, he later retired a second time from Franciscan Health.

David was deeply proud of his military service, loved his country, and the American Flag. He remained active in veterans organizations, including the American Legion Post No. 1919 and the VFW Post, both in Greenwood. He was also a member of Englewood Lodge No. 715, F&AM, the Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis, the NRA, and the RCA Pin Club.

In his leisure time, David enjoyed life's simple pleasures. He loved reading the newspaper while drinking coffee, listening to the golden oldies, and shopping at thrift stores. He especially cherished being outdoors-fishing, mushroom hunting, shooting guns, and spending time at his cabin in southern Indiana. He found great satisfaction in working outside in his garden, mowing grass, and chopping wood. Above all, David always valued time spent with family. He dearly loved his children and grandchildren, encouraging them to pursue higher education and success in life. He also had a kind spirit and was tender-hearted; often visiting with family and friends in time of need.

As a young man, he was a member of Villa Heights Church where he and his family worshiped. It was in that church where he found God and was radically changed by the Gospel of Jesus Christ. In his later years, he continued to grow in his faith as a member of Emmanuel Church.

David is survived by his children, Tammy (Edward) Sluder, Daniel (Tisha) Syrus, and David Matthew (Alissa) Syrus; his beloved grandchildren, Anderson, Jackson, Landen, Naomi, Addilyn, Annabelle, Elijah, and Ainsley; as well as the mother of his children, Linda Syrus.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in passing by his brother, Doug Syrus.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 am, Friday, October 3, 2025, at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Greenwood, with Pastor Gary Satterly officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens with military honors conferred by a contingent from the United State Navy and the Indianapolis Military Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, Thursday, October 2, 2025, at the funeral home.
