Jeffrey Goben Obituary
Jeffrey L. Goben, affectionately known by many as "The Mayor," passed away peacefully at 3:33 p.m. on Thursday, September 4, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was 73 years old.
A proud graduate of Southport High School and Vincennes University, he also attended Indiana Central College (U of I). Jeff went on to build his life and legacy in Greenwood, Indiana. He devoted 41 years to his career as a banker, which included being a co-founder of Heartland Community Bank, where he built not only a professional legacy but countless lasting friendships. Known for his warm personality and ability to connect with anyone he met, he became a fixture in the community he loved.
Jeff was a former member of the Kiwanis Club, past President of the Sertoma Club of Greenwood and past President of the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce. Former Governor Mike Pence named him a Distinguished Hoosier in 2016. He was also the longest-standing member of Dye's Walk Country Club (60+ years), where he spent many cherished days with friends on the course that he so much loved.
Above all, Jeff's greatest joy was his family. He and his wife were married for more than 50 years. He was proud of his 2 sons and adored his 3 grandchildren. He is survived by his beautiful, devoted wife, Miche Goben of Greenwood; his son, P.J. Goben, and grandson, Wyatt Goben, of Buford, Georgia; and his son, Tony Goben, his wife Emily, and their children, Chance and Bridget Goben of Greenwood, IN. He is also survived by his sisters Judy Thornton (Phil), Jacque Comella (Tony), and Jennifer Dickie (Bill), as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews who loved him dearly; sister-in-law, Francine Lessard of Muskegon, MI and brother-in-law Bob Lessard of Hampton Bays, NY.
Jeff's legacy will be remembered not only through his contributions to the Greenwood community but also through the love, laughter, and wisdom he shared with those closest to him.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Sertoma Club of Greenwood, P.O. Box 286, Greenwood, IN 46142.
A Celebration of Life will take place from 3-6PM, Sunday, November 30, at The Sycamore at Mallow Run, 7070 W. Whiteland Road, Bargersville, IN 46106.
