Jerry Lasiter Obituary

Jerry Whiteland David Lasiter Jerry David Lasiter, 78, passed away on June 11.2025, at Franklin Meadows Care Facility, in Franklin, IN. He was born on December 20,1946, in Whiteland, to the late Ellis and Thelma (Taylor) Lasiter.

Jerry was an extraordinary person; not because of intellect, wealth or power; but because of his love for people. Jerry's purpose on this earth was to define the good in people. He never let his mental disability define him. He was a master manipulator. If you were never conned into taking him to the Dairy Queen, or buying him a coke and popcorn, or a whole butterscotch pie at Grey's cafeteria, he probably wasn't sure you liked him.

His family is so appreciative of how Whiteland embraced him and watched out for him throughout the years. There was never a fear of him being hurt or taken advantage of because someone was always looking out for him.

At an early age he was drawn to sports. Not having any athletic ability himself he devoted himself to be the best fan he could be. As a teenager he decided to support Whiteland high school athletics, especially basketball. He went to the high school daily to see if he could help in any way. The coaches not only accepted him, but they also embraced him. He became a fixture in the basketball program for decades, to the point one time the athletic director introduced Jerry to a potential coach before he chose to select him for the job. Jerry accepted the position of NUMBER ONE FAN with dedication and determination. At a pep rally for the baseball team going to the state finals the organizers allowed Jerry to speak, and it was quite inspiring. He also was given a lifetime pass to all of Mooresville's athletic events. Whiteland's heated football rival.

The school community felt that Jerry had such a great impact on the school and its commitment to excellence that they established a perpetual scholarship in his honor. It is directed specifically to students who showed support to the community and a desire to help the mentally handicapped.

He is survived by a younger brother, Jim, sisters-in-law, Carol, Sharon, and Pam and many nieces and nephews, their children and their children's children.

Jerry was proceeded in passing by his parents, brothers: John and Joe, and many BFFs that he had during his lifetime.

If Jerry was able, he would surely ask you to donate to this in lieu of flowers

(Jerry Lasiter Scholarship, Clark Pleasant Education Foundation 50 Center St. Whiteland, Indiana 46184). The link to donate: https://clarkpleasanteducationfoundation.networkforgood.com/projects/193718-jerry-lasiter-scholarship He also would want you to not be sad in his passing but to go out and eat somewhere, take someone less fortunate with you and tip a root beer in his honor.

Visitation will be at the Whiteland high school gym on Tuesday June 17th, 2025, from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Please wear tennis shoes to protect the floor (that is important to Jerry).

Services will be at Jessen Funeral Home, Whiteland Chapel (of course), located at 729 N. US 31 Whiteland, IN. 46184, on Wednesday, June 18th, 2025, at 12:00 pm. With internment following at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens Cemetery, next to his parents.
