Vernon D. Knight Sr., age 69, of Michigan City, IN passed away on Sunday, February 12, 2017 at his home in Michigan City.
He was born December 28, 1947 in Crown Point, IN to Vernon “Jock” and Maisy Knight who preceded him in death.
Vernon is survived by his son: Vernon (Natalie) Knight; grandchildren: Amanda (Robin) Childers, Kristen Withers, Zachary Knight; great-grandchildren: Alivia Self, Steven Self, Robin John Childers, Aubree Childers, Allyson Childers; brothers: Rick Knight and Spencer Knight and his dog: Itty-Bitty.
Vernon was also preceded in death by his wife Nicki Knight, who he was married to on May 25, 1971 in Black Oak , IN and brothers: Chuck and Tracey Knight.
Vernon served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Horne DLG30, and remained in the Naval Reserves for 16 years. He served as a Lake County Deputy Sheriff. He retired from 23 years as a correctional officer at the Indiana State Prison. Vernon attended Faith City Assembly of God Church. He was an awesome father, father-in-law, loving grandfather and great-grandfather and just such a happy guy.
Visitation for family and friends will take place on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 from 9:00 to 11:00 AM at Geisen-Carlisle Funeral Home located at 613 Washington St. Michigan City, IN.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Geisen-Carlisle Funeral Home, with Pastor Bill Barnes of Faith City Assembly of God Church, officiating.
Burial will follow at Swan Lake Memorial Gardens in Michigan City, IN.
Memorial contributions may be made to Vernon’s family.
