Blanche Betty Hajek Sineath

Blanche Betty Hajek Sineath passed peacefully on 8/16/2021 in West Chester, PA at the age of 98. From a young age, Betty was always a high energy person who loved being outdoors growing up on a large farm in Winamac, IN. She attended nurses training in Chicago and upon being certified as an RN, joined the Army Nurse Corps. Betty achieved the rank of 1st Lieutenant while serving during WWII. She met her partner for life, Lt. “Si” Sineath while on duty in Panama and celebrated over 70 years of marriage. During her long life she worked as an operating room nurse in Atlanta, Chester County Hospital and Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in PA and Phelps County Regional Medical Center, Rolla, MO. She was an avid gardener, holding board positions at the local gardening club and earned her Master Gardener certification. She taught a variety of adult education classes including advanced first aid, flower arranging & cookery and wreath making. Betty was very active in the Chester County Hospital auxiliary (opening her home twice for Chester County Day tours), Girl Scouts, Habitat for Humanity, PEO and the Stephens Ministry. She also worked with the Westtown Township to purchase the land and establish Oakbourne Park. Betty loved to play golf and bridge and had a passion for antiques and music. She traveled extensively and enjoyed meeting new people and learning about their culture. Betty was a free spirit, fiercely independent and loved to joke with her spit fire sense of humor and quick wit. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Betty is survived by her son, Jim S. Sineath; four daughters, Sue Ellen Sineath, Debera K. Sineath, Cindy S. Ray and Catherine S. Hayes; eight grandchildren, Kendra Sineath Gray, Karl Sineath, Jamie Knupp, Amelia Kazmarski, Heather Colomb, Kevin Hayes, Austin Hayes and Olivia Hayes; as well as 11 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, “Si”, Betty was predeceased by her parents, James Hajek and Emelie Kadansky Hajek.
