Bruce Bitner Obituary

Bruce E. Bitner of West Chester Bruce E. Bitner, 89, of West Chester, passed away on March 29, 2011 at his home. Born in 1922 in Beech Creek, Pa., Bruce served in the US Army, 12th Armored Division during World War II. He was a railroad engineer for Pennsylvania Rail Road. Bruce was predeceased by his wife, the late Camille (nee, O'Brien) Bitner and his son, the late Edwin Schofield. He is survived by his children, Camille Sharpler of West Chester, Regina Kelly of Glen Mills, Margaret Traynor of Hummelstown and Dolores DeBaecke of West Chester. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral Mass 11 a.m. Saturday, April 2, 2011 at Ss. Peter and Paul Church, 1325 Boot Road, West Chester, PA 19380. Calling hours will be 8:30 to 10:15 a.m. Saturday, at The Donohue Funeral Home, 1627 West Chester Pike, West Chester, PA 19382, 610-431-9000. Int. Ss. Peter & Paul Cem. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Disease Association, 399 Market Street, Suite 102, Philadelphia, PA 19106 or to The American Cancer Society, 1626 Locust Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103. Bruce may you always be remembered for your contagious smile, homemade wine,being a man who always had a compliment for you... a nice conversationalist.I so enjoyed the times you came over to hear me sing and request you songs.It was a neighborly night at our pool with John and I...Betty and Bruce Riddel, Nancy and Nick Sapone,the late Janet Joseph...RIP Bruce It was nice to share part of our lives while living in West Chester 1995 until 2006...May your famly feel at peace and be proud reading all the fine memory notes about you! One thing, I seriously remember your welcoming John and I to the neighborhood,giving us a tour of your wine cellar a glass of your wine WOW a Kicker too!You were something else, Always clipping your trees,working on your garden,grounds. I never saw a man keep such a beautiful home even your garage floor being partially carpeted while the other part sparkling clean.Wonderful cherrishing memories of Bruce.Gods Blessings of comfort for all your family in this time of sorrow.

Mr. Bitner was the kindest, most gentle man & our neighbor for 24 years. We will miss seeing him toiling in the garden but he has left us the gift of wonderful memories.
