I was one of Dr. LaRossa´s patients, and even years after his passing, his name still carries weight. In 2020, a surgeon in Colorado told me it was an honor to meet someone Dr. LaRossa had cared for. Though they had never met, he knew of Dr. LaRossa´s reputation and spoke of him with deep respect. That moment reminded me just how far Dr. LaRossa´s impact reached-and how lucky I was to have been in his hands.

I just today found out about Dr. LaRossa's passing. I worked with him at FAMC in the 70's and we reconnected in 1978 at CHOP when he was the surgeon for my infant daughter who was born with a cleft lip/palate .Other problems caused more surgeries and he always visited with her during her hospital stays and was a real comfort and help when a surgical mishap occurred. {not by him} He was a wonderful man and doctor and I just wish I knew of his passing earlier as my daughter also died.

I met Dr. LaRossa when my daughter was an infant in 2005 and he performed her initial cleft repair in October of that year. I was terrified to send my tiny little girl into an operating room. But something about Dr. LaRossa put me at ease. Today she had her very last cosmetic adjustment at age 17 and I googled to see what Dr. LaRossa was up to these days. I am so sorry to learn of his passing. He touched so many children´s lives. He told me at the time that my daughter was one of his last cases as he was heading towards retirement and handed us off to one of his wonderful colleagues. But I will never forget his kindness or the beautiful smile my baby emerged with that day in 2005. My deepest condolences to his family.

Dr LaRossa will forever be in my heart & the hearts of my family as a hero - He changed the course of our lives in a very, completely significant way by providing a far better outcome for my mother than was expected. He also provided hope and compassion, but realistic expectations. Though my mother is now in heaven with Dr. LaRossa - they live on not only in heaven but on earth in our hearts and memories. Bless Dr LaRossa & his family and loved ones on this special day.

Dr. LaRossa changed my life. He took care of me for 18 years repairing my bilateral cleft lip and palate. He was one of the kindest, gentlest souls I have ever met. I learned of his passing today when I called CHOP to ask how I could give back and help other families or patients in need. I am deeply saddened by the news and I truly was so blessed to have been under his care.
Dr. LaRossa, you had a heart of gold and hands of an angel. I hope you know the impact you had on my life and I am forever indebted to you. Thank you so much and may you rest in peace. <3

I just found out today of the passing of Dr LaRossa while my granddaughter was having a procedure done at Chop. He operated on my daughter in 1985, when she was four years old, after a dog bite to the face. Dr LaRossa operated on her again in 1997. As a very upset mother, I knew after our initial appointment that my daughter would be alright. His work was beautiful and I will always be thankful that he was her doctor during this difficult time. RIP

Dr. Larossa,
At the age of 13, you changed my life. Now I'm a 53 year old mother
I looked up your name and was so sad to see that you had passed.
I just want to thank you for being the wonderful, caring man that you were and for how many children's lives you changed and the smiles you brought to all our faces.

Dr. Larossa calmed and comforted our family during the very hard time of correcting my son's lip and palate with surgery back in 1978-83. My son looks great, and remembers Dr. L. with great fondness, as do we all. But more than that, I know the world is the worse for losing his good heart, great talent and kindness. Rest well please, Dr. L. You will be long missed.

Dr. LaRossa and family. I was a patient of yours for 18 years and was born with a cleft lip and palate amongst other things. I wanted to let you and your family know how much you have changed my life, my physical appearance and my outlook on life in a positive way. Dr. LaRossa was the most compassionate, kind, understanding person I have ever had the privilege of knowing. What an amazing individual, amazing physician, and what incredible, life altering things he has done for me of that I can never repay or thank him enough. He is gone and never forgotten because he is always in my heart.

Our family is so sorry to hear of Dr. Larossa's passing. Our son, Adam, was born with a cleft lip and palate 30 years ago. Dr. Larossa performed all of his surgeries over a time span of 16 years. He was such a wonderful and caring person who inspired Adam to become a doctor. Adam just graduated from Jefferson Medical College last week and also became a father 2 weeks ago. I called CHOP to find out how to contact Dr. Larossa, who would have loved hearing our wonderful news and I was told that he had passed away recently. Please accept our condolences.

Dr. Larossa was an amazing surgeon as well as a human being. We went to him after our first surgeon passed away in new York, we decided we would go to the best and sure enough, he was above and beyond the best. My son took to him immediately and we just adored him and felt our son was in the best hands. He operated on him with tender loving care and everything was successful, we never doubted him !!
I always looked forward in seeing him at the Cleft Palate meetings, with a big smile on his face and the kids just adored him as well as the parents.
He will truly be missed, God has an Amazing angel now.
I send my condolences to his family and wish them healing !!

The news of Dr. LaRossa's passing has our entire family heartbroken. From the first day we brought our son to meet with Dr. LaRossa at CHOP, we knew he truly loved helping children. His care and compassion for the little ones in his care was beyond words. Dalton was born with an extremely wide unilateral cleft palate and met Dr. LaRossa when he was 1 month old in 1999. He helped Dalton to be proud of his appearance and the work he did was outstanding. He also performed his bone graft several years later and was so flexible in how to deal with his recovery. He told us, he's a little boy, if he feels comfortable doing things, by all means, let him do it. So 2 weeks later our son played on the All-Star baseball team as planned. Thank you Dr. LaRossa for allowing our little boy to grow up and enjoy his childhood. Thank you for committing to help all children with craniofacial conditions. Your work is truly appreciated and please know you've touched so many hearts including ours through your work over the years. I offer prayers to your family. Knowing the gentle spirit of Dr. LaRossa, I'm convinced he's watching over you and all of the children who need his guidance. Love forever, Amanda Morrison and Jeff and Dalton Rupert. We will always remember you!

Our family's hearts were saddened to hear of Dr. Larossa's passing. It was 1980 when my husband and I walked into the Cleft Palate Clinic with our son, who was born with a bilateral cleft lip and palate. As a young mother, I was devastated, lost, and confused. This gentle, caring and warm man reassured us Charlie was going to be ok. After Charlie's first repair, he walked into our room with a huge, warm smile and asked why I was crying. I told him he gave my son his smile! He was a gentle, kind man, and a surgeon from God with hands of gold! My son looked upto him on one of many visits and told him how others look at him differently. Dr. LaRossa said, "Charlie, you have what we all have, and there are three reasons we have lips: one-to talk(and you can do that), two-to smile, (and you can do that), three- to kiss, and I know you can do that! Our son's head started to lift up with the biggest smile ever!!! Thank you, Dr. LaRossa for all you have done. God has to have a very special place set aside for you!!! You will be missed by many, but never, ever forgotten for what you gave to so many! God Bless You and our sympathy to your family. RIP. The Pascale Family xoxo

We met Dr. LaRossa when our daughter, born with a unilateral cleft palate and cleft lip, was 8 days old. Through multiple surgeries during her childhood, we knew she was in the care of an incredibly skilled surgeon and a very kind and gentle man. Twenty-four years later and every time we see our daughter smile, we are grateful Dr. LaRossa came into our lives. We hope his family finds comfort in knowing what an important presence he was for so many families. He lives on in the many, many beautiful smiles of his patients. May he rest in peace.

It is difficult to express the gratitude we have for Dr. Larossa. Our daughter Sarah has been in his care since birth. Eighteen years later, she is more beautiful than we could have ever imagined. How saddened we are today to hear of Dr. LaRossa's passing. Just shy of 9 yrs ago we arrived at CHOP with our 5 day old daughter with a cleft palate. With tears in my eyes the nurse said to me, "Don't worry. You are in the best possible place and Dr. LaRossa is the best." Boy was she right.
We felt so at ease and comfortable with Dr. LaRossa. We knew our daughter was in good hands and felt such gratitude for him. We are blessed to have known him and to know that he has shared his love and knowledge around the world.

Don was my mentor, friend, neighbor.
He was the one that really showed me what medicine really was. So in the end, I went into medicine, and found myself a resident in his OR many years later. It was a monumental moment for me; all I could think of was that I did not want to disappoint this man whose kitchen I had sat in so many years earlier looking for guidance. He was, as always, a gentleman a fantastic teacher that day. His patience with us residents, fellows, and students is legend

Dr. Larossa worked miracles with my dad's melanoma on his nose and neck with the associated plastic surgeries , and he was so kind and truly cared about his patients.
