It was a bit of a shock when, as I read this morning's email, I realized that it has been 8 years since Fred's passing. I still vividly remember Fred's progression from student to test stand intern to Boeing employee and, most especially, to Boeing Technical Fellow. He was a joy to work with and a good friend. His memory will be with me forever. I trust that he is keeping all the gears in Heaven in good working order.

Dear Mrs. Brown and Family. I just learned of Fred's passing from a friend who works at Boeing. I am so sorry for your loss. It was nice to read the guest book comments. Fred was well respected at Boeing.

I manage the ME labs at Villanova and have worked with Prof. Brown on various nights over the last 26 years. It was always nice to bump into him in here on campus and have missed his company in recent years. I remember when he first started taking up fly fishing. Unfortunately, I never got to join him on Brandywine Creek. I will think of him the next time I go out.

Please accept my sincerest thoughts and deepest sympathy on behalf of all of us here in the Mechanical Engineering Department and the Villanova Community as a whole.

I worked with Fred @ Boeing on and off over many years. He supported me on many programs and I was always impressed with his technical skill and his kind and gentle nature. He was a great technical leader and just a nice guy...willing to go the extra mile to support Boeing. He will be missed professionally and personally. I am very sorry for his family's loss.

Eileen, I worked with Fred both in and away from Boeing and I've always had the greatest respect for him. Fred was a real gentleman. He was a pleasure to work with and he will certainly be missed. We have lost a good friend and a wonderful person besides one of Boeings' top engineers. Pat and I will be praying for you and your family during this very difficult time.

We have only known Fred about five years but like so many others will miss him very much. We know he was a great man because along with Eileen he parented the finest husband any parents could wish for their daughter. Eileen, you and the kids are in our daily thoughts and prayers.

Cant say enough about this kind, humble, brilliant engineer and friend. We will miss his wonderful smile, friendship and ability to explain the most complex technical issues in ways anyone could understand. He will never be forgotten by those of us that worked with and learned from him. Thank you Fred for all of the great memories and what you taught us over the years.

It was a great honor to know Fred, I had the great pleasure of traveling with Fred on many occassions. One of Fred's traits that I admired most was his ability to explain difficult engineering principles in a way that could be understood by all, even by us metallurgists!! We will miss Fred very much.

I had the pleasure of crossing paths with Fred even though I work for Boeing in Mesa, AZ. I work in the drive systems stress group here, and we learned that Fred was a great source of experience and "gear wisdom." He always impressed me as a true gentleman - always ready and willing to help and never made you feel like there was a dumb question. I am very sorry for your loss, and I will miss hearing Fred's voice on the other end of the line, but am sure he is at peace.
May God bless Fred and his family.

My deepest sympathy goes out to the entire Brown family. Fred was a fine man, a really good engineer and, most of all, a great father. He will be sorely missed. I had the privilege of working with Fred for more than 30 years, beginning even before he began his career at Boeing (while he worked as a student on the Boeing gear test facility at Villanova University as an engineering student). I watched Fred grow rapidly from "Student" Engineer to "Master" Engineer. One of my fondest memories was the day (26 January 2004) I was asked to write a recommendation for Fred's induction into the Boeing Technical Fellowship in recognition of his accomplishments as a Gear System Technologist, my own chosen field as well. Fred had a great, dry sense of humor. When I retired from Boeing in 2003 I was honored to turn over the title of "Boeing Gear Doctor" to Fred. Prior to that time, he often referred to himself as The "Boeing Gear Nurse!" He carried "promotion" to Gear Doctor quite well... I am proud to have had the opportunity to call Fred both colleague and friend. I trust now that all the gears in Heaven will mesh properly!
