Lee and Dot were such quality people. Loving and well spoken, welcoming others. . They loved their family deeply. Lee's mission as an artist, later in his life, was to portray scenes from the Underground Railroad. My family lived at Bala Farm, and Lee came there several times to paint. I am blessed to have known them both.

Lee was a gentleman, with deep love for his family. He had a special mission, to preserve the history of the Underground Railroad. I was privileged to meet him, via his mission, as he painted several scenes at Bala Farm, in West Chester, PA. I liked Lee and Dot so much... quality people! It was an honor to know them both. Comfort to their family... they always will live on in our hearts. I live in Florida now, and others bought Bala Farm, and enjoy it.

Lee was a gentle, sweet man, who loved his wife and his family. He dedicated many years, painting scenes from the Underground Railroad. That is how we became dear friends, when he had an exhibit, and I told him about Bala Farm, a home we owned for 27 years. Lee painted a snow screen outdoors there, with our footprints in the snow. He also painted the stone library, outside, and another inside - showing the stairs. Very symbolic, brown stairs, with white paint on the risers. He was like a precious father figure to me. We shared reverence for the history of the Underground Railroad, and values. I loved Dorothy too! Such a good and fun woman, with great values as well. Their friendship is precious to me.

May God be with you during this difficult time. I know that Mr. Carter was a wonderful man and he dearly loved his family. When I saw his paintings for the first time, I was amazed at how talented he was! Now I understand why Yvette is so creative and such a great writer! Dear Dot, Lee's precious family, and to those Lee loved, and loved him back,

Lee was a very fine and gentle man, of principle and good character.

He had many missions to provide good in this world.

The legacy of his art, tenderly decipting scenes of slavery and the Underground Railroad is a gift that has deeply touched me, and many others, and will continue to do so for many generations.

I am privileged to have known Lee, and his beloved Dot, and some of his dear family.

My love and deep sympathy,

To Mom Carter, My good friend Jackie, and family.....I remember the day I met your mom and dad, Jackie. It was at the "Road to Freedom" Underground Railroad grand opening display.....I was honored to attend and to see such great art. Oh how amazed I was. As I am writing this I have the signed autograph card from your dad that I asked him to sign for me that says, "To Frena Parrilla The best of luck. Artist Lee Carter The Underground R.R. (I kept that card from all those years ago) He will be greatly missed. All I can say is "What a Great Man!" How do I know: I listened to how his daughter (Jackie) spoke of him.....

Ms. Dot, Jackie & Family,
While growing up in Hayti, I have many fond memories "hanging out" at your house. You were like my second family! I will always remember Mr. Lee as a caring man with a quiet strength. He was definitely a role model for those who knew him. I will always remember him as a great person.

John,
I remeber visiting your Dad at Morgantown Flea and Antique Market, He would always let me know where you were and how you were doing. I've thought of you often thru the forty some years since High School, especially when I'd see Yo Yo and his Cello. Please know your Dad is "home" and your families' memories will give you comfort and peace.

Praises be to God. For HE has done marvelous things. Mr. Carter was more than words could express. He was an icon of the black community of Coatesville, namely Hayti. Always with a smile when you saw him, and a very soft spoken greeting when you were near him. We kids loved him and Ms. Dot, as we grew up in Hayti. God has taken a man we all loved. Rest on Mr. Carter, rest on.
