Joan Elaine Torriero

1940 - 2018

Joan Elaine Torriero, 77 of West Chester, Pa., passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Neighborhood Hospice in West Chester surrounded by her son, daughter and close friends. Born on May 23, 1940 in Springfield, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Harry L. Van Winkle and Viola F. Van Winkle. Joan graduated from Springfield High School in 1958 and attend Kutztown University. Joan is survived by her 2 children Anthony Torriero and Deanna Effinger (Torriero), son in law Scott Effinger and 4 grandchildren Anna, Kya, Olivia and Reid Effinger. She was a “Joan of all trades” having several diverse jobs over the years to provide for her children before settling into what became her extended families. Joan was a consultant at Pearle Vision Center from 1980-2005 and the secretary for Crime Prevention at Tredyffrin Police Department from 1981-2008. Joan was an encouraging woman who raised her children with great passion. She was everyone’s friend no matter the circumstance. Joan had a great love of shopping, décor and crafts. Presentation meant everything and if you knew Joan then you are blessed with wonderful memory of something she handcrafted especially for you. Her generosity was contagious. Joan was a devoted daughter, mother and grandmother. Her children were her world, even more were her grandchildren. “Mom Mom” had an enthusiastic relationship with each grandchild who she adored for eternity. Burial service will be private.
