John W. Somers

1936 - 2017

John W. Somers of Malvern John W. Somers, surrounded by family, played his final hand of poker on April 10, 2017 at the age of 81 (or 29 if you were to ask him) after a diagnosis of severe Lung Cancer. Born on February 19, 1936 in Liberty, NY to Daniel and Elsie Somers, he was the youngest of his siblings James, Walter, Leo, and Katherine. John lived an active life having owned several businesses, playing poker, throwing horseshoes, solving Sudoko puzzles, trying every “as seen on TV” product, and spending time with his family. There was never a doubt that he loved his children, grandchildren, and their families and he certainly loved the guys at Atlas Transportation where he was employed for the last 3 years. John is survived by his wife, Bette; his 3 daughters, Sandy Polson, Susan Ferrell, Shirley Griffith; 12 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.
