Joseph Nagy Obituary

Joseph C. Nagy, Sr., 96, of Coatesville died Saturday, April 11, 2015 at Tel Hai Retirement Community, Honey Brook. Born in Coatesville, he was the son of the late Frank and Helen Haydu Nagy and the husband of the late Grace Williams Nagy with whom he shared 58 years of marriage, before her death in 1998. Joe was a member of St. Cecilia Church, Coatesville. He retired from Lukens Steel Co. after 42 years of service as a crane operator. Joe attended the Civilian Conservation Camp in York, where he met his wife Grace. Joe served in the U.S. Army during WWII and Occupation of Japan. Joe was an avid bowler. He worked at Bowling Palace, Downingtown for 36 years. He bowled in numerous leagues and tournaments. Joe bowled in 55 American Bowling Congress tournaments across the United States. He was elected to the Chester County Sports Hall of Fame, Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame, and the Philadelphia Bowling Association Hall of Fame. He was featured on Bowling For Dollars All Star Bowling. Joe is survived by his five children: Judith A. Skoniczin and her husband Richard of Coatesville; Kathryn N. Terry and her husband William of Coatesville; Jane L. Wyatt and her friend Paul Lutz of King of Prussia; Joseph C. Nagy, Jr. and his wife Sarina of Coatesville; and Ann M. Furlong and her husband Kenneth of Coatesville; 12 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; one step great-great grandchild; and one sister Helen Nagy Imperial of Norristown. In addition to his wife, Grace, Joe was predeceased by his 12 brothers and sisters. Joe’s Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, April 17, 2015 at 11 a.m. at St. Cecilia Church, 6th Avenue and Chestnut Streets, Coatesville where family and friends may call beginning at 10 a.m. Family and friends may also call Wednesday, April 15 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wentz Funeral Home, 342 East Chestnut Street, Coatesville 610-384-0318. Interment will be in St. Cecilia Cemetery, Coatesville. Memorials in Joe’s honor may be made to Chester County Sports Hall of Fame P.O. Box 30, West Chester, PA 19381-0030.
