Kevin Smith Obituary

Kevin Gordon Smith, sixty-two of West Chester passed away unexpectedly on December 5, 2021, at his West Chester home, likely succumbing to heart failure. Kevin was born April 19, 1959, at CCH the oldest son of Gordon W. Smith (Esther Gay) of Berwyn and the late Marianne Fazzini Smith of West Goshen. He was a 1978 graduate of WC East High School and then attended Cheyney University. He never married but did have several long-lasting relationships through the years; always holding a torch for his high school sweetheart, she was the one that he, let get away. He was a member of the WC Elks and was a 32° Freemason. He has been employed several places through the years too many to mention them all here. At his first job Supplee’s Farm Market (Rt. 3 & 5 Points Rd) he was held up at gun point. At his last place of employment as a courier for a local auto tag business he had hardly missed a day of work in over 5 years until he did. Kevin was a voracious reader with a significant knowledge of several subjects, all of which could have made him a professor at any of the Ivy schools in the country. He held a vast knowledge of Native Americans and of US history. His recall of historical facts and dates of design and patents was beyond belief, from firearms and tools to fishing reels and fishnet stockings, Kevin was encyclopedic. He was also an eclectic collector of all things interesting, including but by no means limited to The Civil War, the Duke, motorcycles, military memorabilia, western art, knives, axes, and a variety of Native American artifacts. Kevin was one of a kind, he loved his friends and family fiercely and he lived his life on his own terms albeit not always in keeping with societal norms. He suffered from OCD of which he had come to view as a good thing; he had a place for everything, and everything was kept in its place, strictly in its place. If you were a friend he would give you the shirt from his back, although that shirt would most likely be sleeveless. Those that were close to him are blessed to have been part of his life. He was predeceased by his mother, Marianne P. Smith (Nee Fazzini) and is survived by his father Gordon W. Smith and stepmother Esther Gay Smith both of Berwyn. Kevin is also survived by his four brothers Keith, Ken, Kirk, and Kyle. Keith (Kathy Freney) of West Chester, Kenneth (Cathy Broadbelt) of Berwyn, Kirk (Julie Pinnix) of Thorndale, and Kyle of West Chester; as well as six nephews and a niece, Kristopher, Scott, Tanner, Tristin, Matthew, Andrew, and Rachel. He also doted on several great nieces and nephews, that he was very fond of being “Uncle Kevin” with. Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation, Sunday December 12, 2021 from 10-11am at the DellaVecchia, Reilly, Smith & Boyd Funeral Home, Inc. 410 N. Church St. West Chester, 610-696-1181, www.DellaFH.com; followed by a Masonic Service at 11am and his Funeral Service at 11:15am. Interment will be private. In Honor of Kevin please make a donation in his name to the charity of your choice.

My last conversation with Kevin was Thursday Dec 2nd. He said he did not feel good and wanted to go to the cabin and rest. Hopefully now he is resting in a cabin in the woods. He will be missed.

We were saddened to learn that Kevin passed away on the 5th of December. He was a good neighbor & always like to share with us his love of books and the knowledge he gleaned from them. He will be sorely missed.
