Aleksander Klimkowski Obituary
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents (Piotr and Stefania), brothers (Julian, Bogdan and Stefan) and his son (Piotr). Alex is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Aleksandra Klimkowski (Susidko), as well as their beloved children (Sergio, Dalia and Miron) and grandchildren (David, Georgie, Teddy and Eloise).
The youngest of four brothers, Alex grew up in Poland and married Aleksandra on June 14, 1980. Together with their children, they immigrated to the United States in 1994 and settled in Memphis, TN. Alex was a devoted Orthodox Christian who found a home at St. John Orthodox Church. Before moving to the United States, he helped to build a new church building at his local parish in southern Poland. A devoted and loving father, he instilled in his children the importance of faith, a resolute devotion to family, a boundless love of learning, and a tireless sense of optimism. He will be remembered for his humorous disposition – effortlessly weaving humor into the fabric of everyday life, turning ordinary moments into extraordinary memories and using laughter to navigate life's challenges with grace and resilience.
Beyond his devotion to faith and family, Alex was a passionate horticulturist who loved inviting visitors to tour his garden and sending them home with fresh fruits and vegetables he had grown himself. In the 1970s, he discovered martial arts while living in Philadelphia and, upon his return to Poland, started a martial arts academy in Krynica. One of his long-term hobbies was walking the Shelby Farms Greenline trail near his home, where he could often be seen practicing karate stances well into his 70s.
Services will be held at St. John Orthodox Church (1663 Tutwiler Ave, Memphis, TN 38107). Visitation will be on Monday, December 18, 2023 from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM and the funeral service will take place on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at 10:00 AM CT. Burial to follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
