Billy C. Smith

Born in Ferriday, Louisiana on September 13, 1952, Bill was the third son of Loyd and Montiel Smith. He left this world to go to his heavenly home on September 16, 2025. Bill grew up in Natchez, Mississippi and graduated from Natchez High School in 1970. Bill went on to graduate from Mississippi State University in 1976 with a degree in civil engineering. He had a music scholarship and played trombone in the marching, symphony, and jazz bands. Bill served in the Mississippi National Guard for six years where he earned the rank of staff sergeant as well as distinction as an expert Marksman. Bill worked for several engineering companies in the private sector before retiring in 2018 from the Shelby County government as an engineering supervisor after sixteen years. Bill enjoyed spending time with his family and tinkering with projects at home and in the yard. He and his rescue dog, Shadow, had many conversations together. He liked to watch TV while sipping his ever-present glass of Dr. Pepper. He was knowledgeable in many things including emergency prepping, meteorology, and mechanics. He could fix anything – including broken hearts. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Loyd and Montiel Smith, and his brother, Loyd Smith, Jr. He is survived by his wife of thirty-five years, Judy Smith; his daughters, Summer (Richard) Dunivan of Alvarado, Texas and Brittany Smith of Rawlins, Wyoming; and his sons, Shay Smith (Beth) of Jacksonville, North Carolina, Seth Smith (Megan) of Bartlett, Tennessee, Blake Smith of Chicago, Illinois and Daniel Smith of Smyrna, Tennessee. Bill leaves behind seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Other survivors include his brother, Bob Smith (Patricia) and his sister-in-law, Carolyn Smith.
