Charles Stone Obituary

Charles "Chuck" Stone departed for Heaven, to join his wife, at 11:30 p.m. July 3rd 2025, just 29 days and one hour after she had left this earth. A Boy Scout in his younger years, after high school, Chuck had served 6 months in the merchant marines, in Michigan, before joining the Navy, for a 20 year active duty career, followed by a 10 year reserve duty. He held many titles in Naval Aviation, including flight simulator maintenance, radar and flight simulator training, among others, but his true passion was his time as a navigator in a P2V anti submarine crew. He loved flying and the view from the clear nose of the P2V. After retiring from military service, he started his own air charter company, which included contracts with a local funeral home, as well as offering the first air ambulance service in the Memphis area. After selling his company, he became a corporate pilot for Ring Can Corporation, now known as Ring Containers Technologies, which afforded him the opportunity to travel different parts of the world and even bring his wife, known to him as "Beautiful", along on some of the trips. Not one to sit around, after leaving Ring, he proudly served as the Fleet and Safety Officer, as well as handling some minor building maintenance for the various homes, at Mid-South Net from 2002 until his retirement in 2018. Chuck enjoyed the outdoors, traveling, spending time with friends and family, and had become an avid boater and a member of the US Power Squadron. He was also a certified safe boating instructor and Red Cross certified First Aid and CPR instructor. He worshipped his wife, Jean, of almost 70 years, who preceded him in death almost a month earlier. Together, they loved to dance, boating on their cabin cruiser, and hosting parties for friends and family. Chuck is survived by his son, Steve (Kay) Stone, daughter, Debbie Stone, granddaughter, Heather (Patrick) Campbell, great granddaughters Lexi and Lani, step granddaughter Mandy Dunn, and step great grandchildren, Mitch Jr., Max, and McKay Dunn. He also leaves various cousins and extended family in other parts of the US. Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, July 11 followed by the Celebration of Life Funeral Service at 2:00 p.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN, 38119. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to The Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
