Daniel Robert Goebl Obituary

Dr. Daniel "Dan" Robert Goebl, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2026 at the age of 86, with loving family at his side in Collierville, TN. Dan was raised in Cleveland where he earned his undergraduate degree at John Carroll University. Dan is a veteran, he served in the US Army's 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell. He completed his master and doctorate degrees at American University in Washington, DC. Dan loved being a psychologist and practiced in Maryland until he was 78.

He lived most of his adult life in historic Annapolis, with his wife, Jane, where he enjoyed his daily walks through the harbor and by the state capital, among some of the nation's oldest homes, churches and state buildings, connected by cobblestone streets. Dan's enthusiasm for sailing was passed along to his children. He also loved flying small planes and some summers, he flew down to Memphis to take his children back to Maryland for visits, and camping among the wild horses of Assateague Island.

Dan was a sweet man, always ready to share a laugh and a smile. He loved classical music and jazz, movies and travel. Dan especially loved the company of family, friends and beloved cats. Upon the arrival of grandchildren, each summer he and Jane hosted his Memphis and St. Louis families at Bethany Beach, all gathered to make lasting memories.

Dan is survived by his daughters Julie Goebl (Memphis) and Shelly Goebl-Parker (St. Louis); their partners John Olivio and Jon Parker; his loving grandchildren Isa Olivio, Clara Parker and Isaac Parker; his sister-in-law Maria Victoria Gonzalez (Madrid) and many caring friends.

Dan was preceded in death by his wife Jane Goebl, his son Christopher "Mark" Goebl, his parents Alois and Anna Goebl, his brother Allen Goebl and sister Lois Baker.

Honoring his wishes, the family has chosen cremation. Dan's and Janie's ashes will be placed at Elmwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the ACLU (https://www.aclu.org/). As a fervent supporter of the ACLU, Dan believed in civil liberties for all.
