David Field Obituary

David D Field Jr, 81, passed away Wednesday, August 13, 2025. He graduated from the University of Mississippi in 1968. David went to work at Douglas High School in Memphis, TN as an English teacher and then for the Shelby Country Sherrif's Department as a Deputy Corrections Counselor. He later worked for the Shelby County Department of Housing as the Director of Housing before spending the last 23 years of his career as the Director of Housing for the Diocese of Memphis Housing Corporation. David was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He was never at a loss for words and was known for his magical margaritas which coined him the name "The Margarita Man." Everyone that knew him well felt the energy of his extroverted personality and depths of his generosity and his love for being around people. Over his lifetime he enjoyed playing golf, riding motorcycles, and spending time with friends and family. He leaves his two daughters Christy Jones married to Steve Jones of Marion, AR and Natalie Murphy married to Brad Murphy of Brighton, TN; his six grandchildren Ashlee Bay married to Alex Bay, Emilee Jones, Cooper Williams, Grant, Thomas, and Hailey. The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, August 19, 2025 at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Avenue in Memphis, TN beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the service time at 11:00 a.m. The burial will immediately follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers that family asked that you make a donation to the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America (MGFA) at https://Myasthenia.org that supports individuals living with Myasthenia Gravis. The family would also like to thank everyone who was a part of David's life and truly appreciates all the love and support that has been poured out over the last week.

Extreme heat keeping me away from service but I´ll be there in spirit. Dave was a colleague at Catholic Charities and then a good friend in retirement.
