DeNarius Hassell Obituary

DeNarius Marqui Hassell is a native of Memphis, TN, affectionately known to his family as "Boo", and "Big Red" to his friends. He was the only child born to Lee and Wyvetta Hassell on October 7, 1987. Boo was the first grandchild on both sides of the family. He confessed his hope in Christ at a very young age at Greater Southside Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor W.R. Jimerson Sr. DeNarius attended Walker Elementary and Mitchell High School. He received a full athletic scholarship to Grambling State University. DeNarius volunteered as an assistant football coach at Mitchell High School for 4 years so he could help his favorite cousin Parron (P.J.) to further develop his skills, and many talents as a football player which was accomplished. He loved to crack jokes, laugh, and have fun. Boo was always pulling pranks on his little cousins. He was a loving and attentive father to his two daughters, Amiyah & Janiyah. He was also very protective of his family. Big Red developed a passion to breed, foster, and train pit bulls. He enjoyed entertaining family and friends at his home. He loved music. His favorite artist was Kevin Gates. Boo enjoyed family outings, and he loved to cook just like his mother. He was a master on the grill. DeNarius loved sports. He'd watch football and basketball games all day. His favorite football team was the New Orleans Saints. DeNarius was a faithful employee at Boars Head where he was a driver for many years. He was currently employed at Phelps Security. DeNarius leaves to cherish his memories two beautiful daughters, Amiyah Hassell (Aprel Hudson), and Janiyah Askew (Janese Askew); his loving mother, Wyvetta Hassell-Dotson; his father, Lee Andrew Hassell; his loving grandmother, Katherine Carson; his favorite uncle, Tyrone Hassell; his favorite aunts, Wynette Thomas-Walls (Neko), Sherry Newberry, and Jacqueline Danielle Faulkner-Suggs; his favorite cousins, Parron Hooker Jr. (PJ), Danielle Horton (Pooh-Pooh), Nyla Thomas, Bria Hassell, Torez Stewart, Adrion Myles, and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins, a very special friend of many years, Monoquita Hodo (Felicia), and his dear friend, Korshala Wilbourn.
