Edward Hurlburt Obituary

Edward Preston Hurlburt, Jr., 77, of Little Rock, AR (formerly Memphis, TN), fell into the arms of his beloved Lord and Savior on October 29, 2024. Preston was born on November 14, 1946, to Ed and Marguerite (Margaret) Hurlburt. Preston's life was defined by his devotion to his family, his service to his community, and his love for the Lord. At 19 years old, Preston joined the Navy and was stationed aboard the USS Forrestal aircraft carrier and survived a devastating fire aboard the ship. His heroism and service during this time was a defining moment of his life. Preston was married to the love of his life, Nancy Lucille, for 51 years. Though a man of few words, he often showed his deep love for her by leaving sweet notes around the house. They had two children, Joshua Hurlburt (Julie) and Claire Davis (Aaron); four grandchildren, Gabriel (Emma), Preston Miles, Natalie, and Lucy Hurlburt; and one great-grandchild, James, due later this month. He is also survived by his sister, Karen Densing (Gary), sister-in-law, Jamie Doyle (Kevin), and brother-in-law, Bobby Ledbetter (Becky) as well as many precious nieces and nephews who gave him the beloved title of Pepe. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Wanda Criscoe, and his son-in-law, Aaron Davis. He was patient and gentle with his family, serving them diligently with no need for praise or accolades. Preston's career spanned over three decades at Industrial & Mechanical Contractors (IMC) in Memphis, where he was a dedicated employee and respected leader. From his roles as an industrial welder, foreman, and shop supervisor, he embodied a servant's heart and humble expertise, leaving a lasting impression on colleagues and friends. Preston could fix anything, he built works of art through welding, and he left a legacy of hard work and dedication. Preston's life changed when he was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in 2011, but this challenging season brought unexpected blessings. It led him and Nancy to Little Rock, where they found support in a caring community, a deeper connection with family, and new joys in music, art, and fellowship with other Parkinson's families. Through it all, his faith remained a cornerstone, and he continued to point his family to the hope of Christ. A memorial service to celebrate Preston's life will be held at Grace United Church (12900 Cantrell Rd, Little Rock, AR) on Saturday, November 9, at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to Alzheimer's Arkansas.

To Karen and the entire Hurlburt family, I am so sorry for the loss of your brother, Preston. Although I didn't know him personally, every time I saw him he was as cordial and friendly as could be. May he rest in the arms of Jesus.
