Frederick Goldsmith Obituary

Frederick (Fred) Coleman Goldsmith, 90, of Memphis, TN, died peacefully at home on November 4, 2022.

Fred was born December 23, 1931, in Memphis. He attended and graduated Southside High School where he met the love of his life and wife of 65 years Dodie.

After high school, Fred proudly served in the Army for 2 years. He graduated from Memphis State University and enjoyed a career in business before retiring. In his second career, Fred worked as Information Officer at Calvary Episcopal Church, his home church, greeting anyone and everyone who walked through the door with a full head of snow-white hair and a contagious smile.

Fred loved life and enjoyed so many things, including playing the trombone, golfing with family and friends, visiting with neighbors, and watching his Memphis Tigers and nightly episode of Wheel of Fortune. He was a dapper dresser and received countless compliments on his socks. He was also a man of great faith, shown by his longtime involvement at Calvary, singing in the choir and participating in other ministries.

Fred loved nothing more than his family. He loved Dodie more each day they were married; he was a loving, patient, and supportive father to his three children; he adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was the best "Pop" any of them could have asked for. His family loved hearing his stories, and Fred had a way of telling the same one a hundred times without it ever growing old.

Fred will be greatly missed by son Jeff (Melinda); daughter Gigi (Doug); daughter-in-law Kristie; grandchildren Angie, Joe, Morgan, Drew, Maggie, and Grace; his great-grandchildren; and many other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by wife Dodie; son Tim; brother Allen; daughter-in-law Barbara; and grandchildren Anna and Hart.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 11, 2022, at 2:00, at Calvary Episcopal Church, followed by a reception.

The Goldsmith family would like to give many thanks to the staff at Baptist Memorial Hospital, Baptist Rehabilitation, and Hope Hospice. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Calvary Episcopal Church.

A man that was the epitome of class, distinction and character. Fred will forever be missed and never forgotten, I can close my eyes and still smile when reflecting on his strong, bolstering voice and laugh. Fly freely with the Angels, Fred...for you have earned your just reward. God's great comfort to the Family. xxoo
