Harold Vailes Obituary

Harold Ray Vailes of Memphis passed away on Sunday June 16, 2024 at the age of 87 years and one day. Harold was born on June 15th, 1937 to Lyman T. and Daisy M. Vailes.

Harold had an amazing truck driving career. He drove for Roadway for over 30 years and then went on to be organizer of Teamsters Union Local 667 before retiring in 2002. He was known over the airwaves as Gear Jammer. He loved fishing, traveling in his motor-coach, spending time with his family, and listening to bluegrass and gospel music.

He was preceded in death by his parents Lyman and Daisy Vailes, a sister Doris Ann Vailes, brothers Ralph Vailes and Randy Vailes, a daughter Doris Ann Vailes, a granddaughter Cindee Leigh Parham, son-in-law Sid Parham, wife and mother of his children Eleanor Vailes and Betty Vailes.

He leaves behind two daughters Jean Tamboli (Frank) and Tina Parham (Sid) a son Randy McKay (Marsha), 5 grandchildren Will McKay (Jennie), Chris Parham, Jon McKay, Andrew McKay (Kendall), Courtney Wilkerson (Trent) and 11 great grandchildren. He also leaves two brothers, Don Vailes (Emma) and Larry Vailes (Judy) along with nieces and nephews.

Harold will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Baptist Reynolds Hospice House 1520 West Poplar
Collierville, Tennessee 38017.
