James Jones Obituary

James Edwin Jones, 90 of Millington, TN, passed away on January 29, 2024.

Mr. Jones was born on July 13, 1933, in Nashville, TN to Hubert Lee Jones and Ruth Wood Jones.

Ed earned a law degree from the University of Tennessee, was in the Army and Navy reserves, and earned his pilot's license.

Ed was a faithful member and deacon at Bellevue Baptist Church. He lived a Christ-centered life exhibiting faithfulness, patience, and virtue throughout. Visiting the holy land and being rebaptized in the Jordan River was one of his many highlights. The number 6 had a special biblical meaning for him conveying completeness and time to rest. He visited Tahiti 6 times and ran 6 marathons.

Ed was a skilled adventurer. He began climbing mountains at age 54. Mt. Kilimanjaro was his first. Afterwards he climbed Mt. Shasta, Mt. Ararat, several mountains in Colorado, several mountains in the holy land, 2 volcanoes in Mexico, Mt. Baden-Powell, Mt. Whitney, Mt. San Gorgonio, Mt. San Jacinto, the Matterhorn in Switzerland, and Timber Mountain.

Ed enjoyed snow skiing and particularly enjoyed skiing at Taos, New Mexico. He enjoyed zip lining and canoed several rivers throughout the country including the Mississippi.

Ed traveled worldwide and enjoyed eating dinner on top of the Eiffel Tower in Paris. He enjoyed history, skydiving, and had a penchant for quaint area restaurants.

Ed epitomized gentlemanly ideals and was proud of his family. He particularly enjoyed peaches and was proud to be part of Jones Orchard. He was a tremendous ambassador for the farm. When asked how the farm was doing, his face would always brighten, and he would respond with a smile, "quite well".

He is survived by his brother, Lee Wood (Juanita) Jones, nephew, Henry Lee (Dayna) Jones, niece, Mary (Jeff) Stupin, great-nieces and nephews, Cooper, Ty, Jack, Olivia, Elliott, Jameson, Katherine.

Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his parents.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, February 5 at 12:00 p.m. with a service at 1:00 p.m. all in the Riverside Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Ed was always so sweet and kind. Not only did he serve as a deacon, but as a faithful greeter/usher at Bellevue every Sunday and for many special events. You could always count on him for a big smile and a funny saying or story! He was a faithful servant and I´m sure he was greeted as such into Heaven. We will miss seeing him at his regular post. Condolences to his family and friends.
