James Kincaide Obituary
James Kincaide (Jim-Jimmy) was born in Memphis, Tennessee, on January 15, 1944, to Calvin Kincaide Sr. and Ollie Mae Gossett Kincaide. Calvin later married Alean Jones Kincaide, who was instrumental in helping to raise James. All preceded him in death. He was the youngest of three sons and two sisters. Two brothers, Calvin and William preceded him in death. He accepted Christ as his personal savior at St. Paul M.B. Church Douglass, where he was a member until his passing under the leadership of Dr. Harry Davis. Mr. Kincaide served as a deacon, Men's Sunday School teacher, and his last class was on November 20, 2020. He was a Boy Scout Leader, Youth Golf Leader, Golf coordinator for the Annual Dalton Nickleberry and Odessa Hayes Scholarship Fund-raiser Golf Tournament. He worked on every minister at the church alongside his wife, Mary. If he was not the chairperson, he was closely connected. Mr. Kincaide received a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Hampton (Institute) University and a Master of Urban Planning from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. He is also a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Real Estate Developer Summer Program. James attended Douglass Elementary, Junior and High School where he always excelled in all phases of education and extra-curricular activities, all this while throwing newspapers at 4:00 am and worked in the evenings working part-time at John Murrell Meat Packing Company and still managed to be an Honor Roll Student and top 10 of the class 1963. He was voted Most Studious, Mr. National Defense Cadet Corps NDCC (Now ROTC), President of Sons of Douglass and played football. He loved everything in Douglass. He was delegated member of The Douglass Alumni Association Corporation (DAAC) He held many positions, his last position was National Recording Secretary. At Hampton, he was president of his freshman class. He was known and highly regarded as an intellectual by his educators, peers, and others throughout his educational career. He was humble and empathetic to other people. James loved to help people and provided community service up to his to death. He was\ an active and dedicated member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and a member 100 Black Men and former Vice-President of Operations. He was a former Board of Directors of the National Organ Transplant Foundation. Over the years, he has received numerous community awards, including Big Brother of the year and the National Conference of Christians and Jews Brotherhood Award. He was active in the Douglass Community and throughout the city, National Civil Rights Museum, Volunteer teacher for Shelby County and Memphis City Schools, and presently as a volunteer for Tillman Street Police Precinct. He received numerous awards for outstanding volunteering. He was a U.S. Army Active-Duty Officer at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. He was a Military Officer Commission, graduated from Engineer Officer Training School at Fort Belvoir, VA. He had an extensive supervisory experience, including five years of combined Active Army, Reserve Army, and Tennessee State Guard Military. He had many careers including Washington, DC HUD Intern, Hampton Institute/NASA Work-Study Program and Advance ROTC Command Program, TVA Regional Planner, Crye Leike Real Estate Broker, Shelby County Head Start Facilities Manager and Consultant, Memphis-Shelby County OPD Planning, Dallas, TX Planning, Zoning and Community Development Deputy Director, Planning and Development Consultant Real Estate Broker and Consultant (first African American), Housing Inspector with ALLWORLD, CEO Michael Hooks Jr. where he often said, "I loved what I am doing" his ideal job after retiring from many other professional positions.
He leaves to cherish his memories a loving wife, Mary Parker Kincaide; one son William Calvin; one daughter, Toya Camacho (Miguel) of Savannah, GA; legal grandson, William Calvin Jr; and eleven grandchildren; one brother, John Edward Kincaide (Eula) of Dallas, TX; two sisters, Margaret Hill and Dorothy Rayford; nieces, nephews, cousins and a large host of other relatives, classmates, and friends. He will be missed.
Services for Kincaide were held on January 2, 2021. Kincaide was laid to rest February 2, 2021 at the West Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery with Military Honors,
