Jayne Harbison Obituary
Jayne Marie Harbison
August 20, 1960 – April 23, 2025
Jayne Marie Harbison, age 64, passed away unexpectedly, leaving behind a lifetime of memories, kindness, and quiet devotion to the people and animals she loved.
Born on August 20, 1960, at Ft. Rucker, Alabama, Jayne spent nearly her entire life in Memphis, Tennessee, a city she called home and held dear. A graduate of Overton High School, Jayne was known for her creativity, wit, and an eye for beauty, especially through the lens of a camera. Her passion for photography earned her ribbons at the Mid-South Fair in her younger days-moments of recognition that spoke to her keen ability to capture the world around her.
Jayne had an enduring love of music, especially live performances, and she delighted in scouring the internet to rediscover old favorites and hidden gems. Her quiet joy came in the form of melody, shared memories, and the simple pleasure of a great song.
Animals held a special place in Jayne's heart. Over the years, she cared for many beloved dogs and cats, and at the time of her passing, she leaves behind her treasured cat, Neko-affectionately nicknamed "Stinky." Jayne was a devoted supporter of Purrfect Match Cat Rescue, contributing when she could and traveling alongside her sister, Nancy, to transport rescue cats to safe and loving homes across the country. Their road trips, which took them to cities like Kansas City, Louisville, St. Louis, and beyond, were labors of love and a true reflection of Jayne's generous spirit.
Despite facing numerous health challenges in recent years, Jayne carried on with resilience and grace. Her sudden passing came as a shock to all who knew and loved her.
Jayne was preceded in death by her parents, Anita and Hunter Harbison, and by her lifelong partner, Sam Gates. She is survived by her sister Nancy, and her brothers Hunter and Richard, along with extended family and friends who will miss her deeply.
Jayne will be remembered for her humor, her quiet strength, her love of the arts, her compassion for animals, and her deep devotion to those she held close.
In honor of Jayne's memory, the family suggests donations be made to Purrfect Match Cat Rescue or your local animal shelter.
A celebration of her life will be on Friday, May 23, 2025 at Forest Hill Funeral Home - Midtown, located at 1661 Elvis Presley Blvd. Memphis, TN 38106 at 2p.m. Visitation will be held from 1-2pm.
