Jean Russell Obituary
Jean "Jeanne" Ann Russell, 72, of Memphis, TN, left this world peacefully, wrapped in the love of her family on September 13, 2025. Born in St. Louis, MO, on August 5th, 1953, Jean's journey took her to Kansas City, MO, Norwalk, CT, and eventually to Germantown, TN. She often reminisced about the whirlwind of moving and attending five schools in five years. She was a proud graduate of Immaculate Conception High School (class of 1971). For over four decades, Jeanne dedicated herself to her work as an accountant, her passion for numbers and solving puzzles a reflection of her bright mind and steadfast determination. Whether at Mapco, Williams Refinery, or Orgill, she found joy in the precision and problem-solving of the profession. Outside her profession, Jeanne's heart blossomed in her garden; her spirit soared at concerts and plays, with some of her favorites including James Taylor, Carole King, Kenny Rogers, and the Beatles. Her laughter echoed each month during spirited (and competitive) games of BUNKO with cherished friends. Jeanne's life was a testament to love-deep, unwavering, and boundless. Jean was preceded in eternal life by her beloved parents, Earl Joseph Russell, Sr. and Marie Flora (Loechle) Russell. She leaves behind a legacy of love through her siblings-Sue Russell, Katie Russell, Cindy (William) Gray, and Joe Russell. She adored with all her heart her nephew Daniel (Kathy) Russell and their children Joseph, James, John, Elizabeth, and Bennett. Their family was her pride, her joy, and her reason for living; She would have done anything for them. She rarely missed a game, event, or a special moment in their lives. Her love for her family knew no bounds. This love spilled over into her love of animals. Jeanne loved her dogs and cats fiercely and felt compassion for those without a home. She took Buddy after her mother passed away and later adopted Annie Chicken and Teddy from a rescue shelter. She helped raise awareness and funds to save dogs who had been abandoned. She also loved bird watching, from the graceful hawks that soared above the neighborhood to the baby blue birds that were born every season in her custom bird house. The visitation for Jean will be held on Wednesday, September 17th, 2025, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 pm. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Rosary on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at 10:00 am. In honor of Jeanne-who loved flowers but was allergic to most of them-donations may be made to Holy Rosary's Boy Scout Troop 274 (c/o Holy Rosary Church, 4851 Park Ave, Memphis TN, 38117) or to Tails of Hope (www.tailsofhopedogrescue.com). Arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, Tennessee 38119 (901) 767-8930. "Where Memphis comes to remember, since 1924."
