Jill McNeeley Obituary

Jill Griffin McNeeley, a 43-year resident of Houston, Texas, passed away on Sunday, March 16th, in Memphis, Tennessee, just a couple of months shy of her 84th birthday. Jill was born in Akron, Ohio, on May 10, 1941 and spent her formative years there. She subsequently moved to Northern Virginia (with the Marine Corps), Massachusetts, back to Ohio, Pennsylvania, Georgia (where she attended Mercer University), South Florida, Texas, and Tennessee.

Jill was a strong, self-reliant woman who instilled that same strength, intelligence, and independence in her three daughters. She had an appreciation for good food, good music, and witty observations. She was a fantastic cook and a force to be reckoned with at Scrabble. She was a life-long animal lover, with a particular affection for her cats.

Jill is survived by daughter Monica McNeeley, her husband Alex Hart, her sons Griffin, Trent, and Clark Markwith, and Griffin's daughter Sophia Markwith; daughter Margot McNeeley and her husband Gary Backaus; and daughter Melissa McNeeley, her husband Ken Treusch, and their son Theodore "Teddy" Treusch. Jill's older brother, Jack Griffin, passed away in 2020.

In keeping with her independent spirit, Jill asked that her daughters forgo the traditional rites of funerals and memorial services and encourage her friends and loved ones to focus on living their best lives and contributing to causes that move them. For those interested in a new cause, the Methodist Hospice Residence (https://www.methodisthealth.org/ways-to-help/ways-to-give/memorials-honorariums/index.dot) was a source of great comfort during Jill's final chapter.

So very sorry to learn of Aunt Jill's passing. I fondly remember her visit here for dad's 70th birthday. Hard to believe that was 2006. The years fly by. My deepest condolences to all three of you girls. May she rest in peace.

I´m so sorry for your loss. I am praying for you all. Please know that your loved one is safe in God´s memory (Proverbs 14:14,15). Just as he brought his son Jesus back to life, he will do the same for your loved one. May God give you comfort and strength to help you cope during this difficult time.
